The Senior Legal Counsel will be expected to advise on compliance with financial services and payments regulations, interact with regulators and assist in the implementation of broader regulatory projects and product launches across the Checkout.com group.As Senior Legal Counsel, you will work closely with all areas of the business in our offices around the globe. You will need to take a consultative and collaborative approach to solving complex legal and business issues in a fast-moving environment.As you will be collaborating with all core functions within the company, the successful candidate should be able to handle multiple areas of responsibilities autonomously, demonstrating excellent critical judgment with a hands-on approach. This is a great opportunity to work on a broad range of projects across multiple jurisdictions, learn new areas of law and play a key role in supporting the company’s rapid growth. You will be based in London at our global head office.You will be joining an expanding legal team in one of Europe’s most valuable fintechs. We do this by providing pragmatic and trusted advice and balancing risk management by fusing high performance, innovation, collaboration and integrity.How you’ll make an impactPartner with our Commercial, Product, Treasury, Financial Partnerships and Compliance teams, acting as a real-time legal advisor to understand their needs and help find creative solutions to achieve business objectivesSupport relationships with regulators on license-related matters, including potential de novo applicationsReview payments product structures, flows and terms to ensure compliance with legal requirementsAdvise on payments regulatory matters, including compliance with payments laws and related regulations across our different jurisdictionsAdvise on broader regulatory requirements applicable to financial institutions, including with respect to group regulatory change projectsAdvise the business on market expansion, researching and evaluating new territories and applying for new licenses or expanding the scope of existing licensesAdvise key business functions on new regulatory developments impacting our operations, products and contractual commitmentsQualificationsQualified solicitor/lawyer (8+ years PQE) with strong post-qualification experience either in-house or in private practiceStrong understanding of legal principles applicable to payments in the UK, including the payments ecosystem and payments regulatory and licensing strategy/execution, and to broader financial institutionsPrevious FinTech, start-up, payments and/or financial institution experience is desirable but not essentialExcellent time management skills and experience managing a diverse workload and competing stakeholder demandsAbility to handle and deliver on numerous high-priority projects concurrentlyComfort with ambiguity, constant change, and a fast-paced cultureA practical, solutions-oriented focus to solving legal challengesAbility to work autonomously and collaboratively as needed, flexing the approach as the matter requiresStrong communication skills and the ability to articulate and explain complex legal issues clearly and conciselyAdditional InformationAt Checkout.com, everything starts with our values, including the experience we offer our people.#AspireWe supercharge your professional growth with career development programs and leadership training.
