Deliver technical and professional engineering, construction, and maintenance to sustain facilities, infrastructure, and ecosystems under the Department’s care. 

Provide ongoing scheduled, unscheduled/emergency, and quick response maintenance, repair, and construction and to address the continued operation and production at state agency owned facilities, structures, equipment, and lands statewide. 

Responsibilities include fabrication, installation and removal of vertical turbine, submersible, and centrifugal pumps and related rotating equipment at our hatchery facilities state-wide.

With your experience, you will perform journey-level work specializing in complex hatchery production pumps and motors, filtration systems and water systems, as well as performing journey-level to semi-skilled work in the machinist field.

We are seeking a candidate to support the sustainability of recreational and commercial fishing opportunities at over 80 hatcheries across the state.

Here are some things you will be doing in this role,

Pump Repair and Replacement: 

• Responds to emergencies after business hours and at times weekends when fish loss is imminent.
• Lead in the assessment, troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and replacement of fish hatchery production pumps up to 300 horsepower, as well as performs these tasks on domestic submersible, end suction, centrifugal pumps, valves, manifolds, and flow meters.
• Prioritize and schedule upcoming work by severity of issue, program priority, and/or geographical location to develop a schedule of tasks for the pump preventative maintenance program.
• Break down pumps to component level, assess wear, purchase parts or machine parts on lathe and milling machines.

Project Leadership: 

• Effectively communicates project scope and expectations to a crew by translating general work requirements into a prioritized plan for individual/team tasks and assignments.
• Analyzes prints, records, and engineering notes to develop pump technical specifications to include the curve, measurements, and materials to be advertised for acceptable bids.
• Identifies needs and deficiencies in the plan/schedule and reports these to the Construction and Maintenance Project Supervisor.
• Provides onsite oversight for the execution of the work, including quality, production, and safety, by ensuring that crews work to job specifications and follows all agency standards.

Budget and Administrative Duties:

• Prepares cost estimates, purchase requisitions, and purchases materials from suppliers.
• Tracks detailed monthly expenditures including travel, vehicle mileage, purchases, and hours by composing Excel based reports for submission.
• Composes monthly credit card transaction records for the Lacey Shop pump crew.
• Monitor incoming work orders pertaining to pump related needs in order to determine and implement the pump crew work schedule and budget.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Work Setting, including hazards:
  • Duties are performed on construction sites in the Hatcheries and Wildlife areas and at times in an office setting. Hazards include working on rough terrain, riverbanks, slippery slopes, and other surfaces, confined and difficult to reach spaces, and in all types of weather conditions, including extreme heat, rain, or show.  Bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, pushing, pulling, and lifting of 50 pounds repetitively when loading and unloading trucks or moving materials around project site.
  • Must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations.
  • Office hazards include working under fluorescent light, repetitively entering data into computer, looking at computer monitor for long periods of time, sitting or standing for long periods of time.
• Schedule:
  • Monday-Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
  • Work overtime as needed/requested. This may include overnight stays and evening and weekend work.
• Travel Requirements:
  • Travel required 60-80% depending on season.
• Tools and Equipment:
  • Basic hand tools, power tools such as drills, roto hammers, cut off saws, circular saws, hydraulic punch, metal band saws, welders, cutting torch, plasma cutter, chainsaws, and/or powered motors; automotive equipment and trailers.
• Customer Interactions:
  • Frequent interactions varying between Federal, Local, Inter-Agency, and Intra-Agency customers and vendors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Four (4) years of journey-level work experience with pumps or rotating equipment.

License: 

• Valid driver’s license accepted in the state of Washington and acceptable driving record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to perform basic machining for the purpose of parts modification.
• Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Skillful working knowledge of pumps, motors, wells, electricity, controls, piping, riggings, and well rehabilitation tools.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches and verbal instruction and order parts, materials, and equipment.
• Ability to respond to occasional, critical emergencies after normal business hours to include weekends.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following: 

• Valid Boom Truck Certification.
• Valid Rigging and Signaling Certification.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with current Medical Examiner’s Certification.
• Follow State and Agency policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Training, for systems with up to 480v 3 phase power.
