Job description

Embarking on a career journey with Social Futures means becoming part of a mission that goes beyond just a job. We are a voice for social change in regional Australia, with a history spanning over 47 years.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate leader to oversee our Head to Health program and AOD Hub servicing the Upper Hunter.

Head to Health is a free mental health support service for people aged 18+ experiencing distress and provides a welcoming entry point for engagement, assessment, care planning and coordination and recovery-oriented interventions. This program is based in Muswellbrook with outreach services to Singleton and Scone.

The AOD Hub provides specialist AOD services to reduce the harm related to alcohol and other drug use and to improve the health, wellbeing and social outcomes of young people, pregnant people and parents with young children. The hub is based in Singleton.

This role gives you an opportunity to:

  • establish a new mental health and AOD service in the Upper Hunter to improve mental health outcomes for the local communities and reduce the harm of substance misuse.

  • expand your network by collaborating with a range of community-based organisations.

This role is a great opportunity to expand your leadership skills. As a leader at Social Futures, you will have access to a mentoring program and receive regular coaching sessions to enhance your skill set.

At Social Futures, we believe in the value of your voice, and we are dedicated to making positive changes every day. We’ve got your back in providing a supportive and inclusive workplace, one that celebrates diversity and promotes inclusion. Here, your wellbeing matters to us.

Among the benefits, we offer flexible working options, access to ongoing learning and development, generous salary packaging options, a staff well-being program, and the opportunity to bank additional days leave per year. Additionally, we prioritise safety and uphold that Social Futures isn’t just a workplace; it’s a community.

Here, we believe in inclusivity, integrity, and learning. Why you’ll like working with us:

  • your voice will be valued and heard in our mission to support positive social change
  • you’ll be part of a supportive, diverse, and inclusive environment where we celebrate individuality
  • you’ll have opportunities for career advancement and capacity building through our leadership academy

We are looking for a visionary leader with a desire to make a difference. The successful candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent senior experience in a relevant discipline, i.e. psychology, mental health nursing or social work.
  • Extensive experience in a senior management role leading teams in the mental health, social and human services sector.
  • At least 3 years demonstrated experience in managing and overseeing the delivery of mental health and or AOD services to people with mild to severe mental health concerns and people at risk of harm due to alcohol and other drugs use.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in delivering services supporting people managing mental health and substance misuse issues and ability to provide workforce mentoring and support.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in line with organisational priorities and implement innovative and effective solutions to complex problems.
  • Outstanding relationship, negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and building stakeholder relationships and developing new programs of work.
