The Role

This position will manage a portion of the philanthropic portfolio, with a special focus on business development for philanthropic and corporate partners that primarily provide restricted grant funding, contributing to the aim of securing funding from new philanthropic business for the FY24-28 Closing the Distance Strategic Plan. Specific financial targets for new funding associated with this portfolio can vary depending on organizational annual budget, with a target of ensuring the majority of funding accrued is multi-year.
The Senior Manager, Partnerships and Development will lead the strategy development and execution of LMH’s new philanthropic business portfolio. This role involves working closely with other portfolio managers and senior leadership. The ideal candidate will have significant experience engaging potential partners and can effectively communicate LMH’s value proposition to align with donor interests.
This position requires autonomy in prospecting, vetting, preparing for, and engaging with new partners. Additionally, the Senior Manager will develop recommendations for prioritizing funding prospects and creating cultivation strategies. They will also delegate tasks across teams and lead due diligence and proposal development to secure philanthropic business. In line with LMH’s goal of improving business development processes, this role will also focus on recommending and implementing improvements to enhance prioritization, role clarity, and overall efficiency.
This role is open to candidates either based in Accra, Ghana or the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. This position is only open to candidates who do not require any paid sponsored or unsponsored work authorization in Ghana or the US. This role is fully remote in the US and hybrid in Ghana.
What you’ll do
Actively cultivate a portfolio of new philanthropic partners to achieve revenue targets, including:
- Develop strategy to achieve new philanthropic business development priorities, working closely with members of the Partnerships & Communication team to align portfolio with other fund development efforts (including Africa Frontline First opportunities).
- Undertake ongoing active prospecting, including the development of prospecting materials.
- Manage all inbound requests for new philanthropic and corporate funding partnerships.
- Manage development and ensure delivery of high-quality, accurate, and timely donor deliverables, including but not limited to concept notes, proposals, pitches, and due diligence (including site visits).
- Set and implement individualized cultivation strategies for each high-priority partner, developed in collaboration with Primary Relationship Owners (PROs) and country team leadership.
- Conduct ongoing stewardship using a high-touch engagement model.
- Support LMH in events and activities (such as Skoll World Forum, UNGA, World Health Assembly) to recognize and motivate current and prospective donors. Make recommendations for LMH attendance at conferences or events to drive business development strategies.
Implement and improve processes to advance portfolio, including change management:
- Provide strategic thinking around portfolio revenue targets, serving as an internal expert and advisor on portfolio to advance informed programmatic planning.
- Identify and lead efforts to integrate DEI considerations into business development efforts and decisions.
- Ensure consistent use of Salesforce for prospect and pipeline data entry & reporting, and revenue projections.
- Improve and adhere to LMH Standard Operating Procedures for partner vetting, opportunity vetting, and proposal development to increase organizational understanding of roles to drive these processes and associated decision rights.
- Provide lateral coaching to Partnerships and programmatic team members to set and execute donor engagement strategy to meet annual fundraising targets as aligned with LMH values.
What You’ll Bring
- Expertise in fundraising with a proven track record of successful portfolio management towards the accomplishment of revenue goals.
- Exceptional verbal and written skills, capable of crafting and delivering messages that engage and motivate donors.
- Ability to manage donor-facing deliverables: strong project management skills and attention to detail, including role assignment, timeline management, and meeting deadlines.
- High emotional intelligence and comfort working in a diverse, high-performing team.
- A proactive problem-solving mindset to develop and manage the next steps independently, anticipating and addressing issues as needed.
- Effectiveness in creating systems to manage tasks, prioritize competing demands and maintain quality.
You’ll Impress Us If
- Educational qualifications in a related field (e.g., Bachelors/Masters in Public Health, Public Policy and/or Business Administration)
- Previous management experience.
- Experience leading project design conversations and/or project budgeting as part of proposal development.
- Familiarity with global public health NGOs.
- Proficiency with Salesforce and Google Suite.

The Band for this position: Band 3
ForGhana, the range is $37,100- $51,940 USD dependent upon experience doing an equivalent role. Please note that this compensation is subject to statutory taxes.
For the United States, the range is $75,549- $91,884 USD dependent upon experience doing an equivalent role. Please note that this compensation is subject to statutory taxes.
