About the role

The Forensic Mental Health in Community Health (FMHiCH) program is designed to improve mental health outcomes and reduce recidivism for adults who are completing a Mental Health and Treatment Rehabilitation condition through the Department of Justice and Community Safety. The Senior Mental Health Worker is an integral part of the Forensic Mental Health in Community Health team. The Senior Mental Health Worker enhances the quality of ongoing support and care for eligible clients by working collaboratively with partners to provide comprehensive assessment, planning, and the implementation and coordination of client goal directed care plans.

Your duties include:

  • Provide recovery-oriented services to clients, utilising the Collaborative Recovery model and coaching principles
  • Facilitate access to community resources and services
  • Work within an internal and external team-based approach to assessment, ongoing care, and treatment
  • Implement individual service plans for clients with appropriate follow-up care including review and referral to other agencies and GPs as required that support person-centered care and recognise people’s strengths within a community-based forensic framework.

Our ideal candidate

  • A tertiary qualification and/or significant relevant experience in mental health, justice, health, community services or equivalent
  • Proof of qualification to be sighted
  • Extensive understanding of the challenges that people who experience mental health, justice interventions and/or alcohol and other drugs face
  • Victorian Driver’s License

All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory Police Check, a Working With Children Check (WWCC), complete a Statutory Declaration, evidence of legal rights to work in Australia, and evidence of vaccination against COVID-19 (3 doses). Additionally, some roles will also require current AHPRA registration and/or NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.

Roles that are determined to be Risk Category A or B [staff that have direct and/or indirect contact with body substances and are at higher risk of occupational exposure to infections] will be required to provide evidence of immunisation assessment including Influenza prior to commencement [A] or within 12 weeks of commencement [B]. This is in accordance with the Victorian Minister of Health Mandatory Vaccination Orders for COVID-19 and legislated requirement for influenza vaccination.
