About the opportunity
The Mental Health and Wellbeing Local in Frankston is welcoming and inclusive support service for people aged 26 years and over who are experiencing mental health challenges, including people with co-occurring alcohol and drug addiction treatment and care needs. This service is delivered in partnership between Wellways, Mentis Assist and Peninsula Health to provide innovative mental health and wellbeing supports to ensure everyone can access treatment and care closer to home.
As our new Senior Peer Service Navigator, you will work with other disciplines to instil hope through positive self-disclosure and positive role modelling, offering practical ways of overcoming day-to-day barriers and by challenging each other to try new things.
Utilising your real-life experience, coupled with skills learned through education and training, you will lead and mentor a team of Peer Service Navigators to support and represent people impacted by mental illness, psychological distress and substance use or addiction.
Main responsibilities of the role include:
- Providing leadership, coaching & supervision to a team of Peer Service Navigators and Peer Cadets
- Satisfy reporting requirements
- Providing intentional peer support
- Providing one on one service navigation and care planning
- Group peer delivery, Discovery, Thinking About Work
- Capacity building for program participants
- Support engagement with treatment supports
The position may also carry a small caseload of participants, as needed, providing service navigation.

About you
This role is identified for someone who feels comfortable to draw on their personal lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery to empower their peers, their team and their community.
You’re empathetic and relish opportunities to make meaningful difference in the lives of people in our community. You will also have the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, including leading and working alongside team members who have lived and living experience of mental health challenges or as carers of loved ones who do.
You will also need:
- Personal experience of a mental illness or psychological distress and recovery
- Relevant four-year degree with one years related experience/three-year degree with two years of relevant experience/diploma with relevant experience or lesser formal qualifications with substantial years of relevant experience in the Community Services sector.
- 100 points of identification
- Evidence of right to work in Australia
- National Police Check & International Police (if required)
- Current Working with Children Check-employment
- NDIS Workers Screening check
- NDIS Workers Orientation module certificate – free online course
