THE OPPORTUNITY
The Senior Philanthropy Officer reports to the Campaign &
Philanthropy Manager and is accountable for the successful
implementation of The Foundation’s Major Donor growth strategy in
North America at the $10,000 – $100,000 level. We are seeking a
relationship builder who can meet ambitious goals and objectives,
acquire new donors, connect with them in a meaningful way around
The Foundation’s mission to end avoidable blindness, and advance
our impact globally. This position identifies, engages, cultivates,
solicits, and stewards current and prospective donors in securing
and expanding their financial support of the work of The
Foundation. Responsible for meeting an annual revenue target by
working towards building and growing a robust pipeline of Major
Donors and stewarding an assigned portfolio of donors and prospects
to advance the mission of the organization.
ABOUT YOU
You will have sophisticated understanding of Major Donor needs,
aspirations, and challenges. You will also have excellent written
and verbal communication skills, including persuasion and
negotiating abilities, effective listening, diplomacy, and tact.
Furthermore, you will have excellent interpersonal skills with the
ability to manage a wide variety of diverse relationships utilizing
a collaborative approach to communication. You will have
innovative, analytical, and strategic minded, with project
management skills. Additionally, you will possess outstanding
presentation skills and strong time management skills, ability to
multi-task and meet deadlines. You will also have high level of
computer literacy and the ability to analyse and interpret data.
Finally, you will have a flexible and adaptable work style, with
the ability to manage competing priorities to a high standard.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Major Donor Strategy Implementation at the $10,000 –
$100,000 level: Works collaboratively with the Campaign
& Philanthropy Manager, the New York-based Senior Philanthropy
Officer, and the Australia-based and international entity
philanthropy teams to create bespoke solicitation strategies
aligned with the Major Donor Strategy, matching the objectives of
the organization and interests of the prospective donors. - Prospect Pipeline Development &
Solicitation: Work with the prospect researcher and
independently identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors at
the $10,000-$100,000 level. Manage a growing, robust portfolio of
donors and create and track customized moves management processes.
Collaborate with the Campaign & Philanthropy Manager, Head of
North America and Advisory Council members, Vision Circle steering
committee, and other key stakeholders to ensure appropriate
engagement of donors. - Development in a New Market: Network and raise
awareness of The Foundation in North America as a growing market in
the eye health sector and adjacent areas. Design and execute
strategies to strengthen engagement with current stakeholders and
new prospects while enhancing The Foundation’s brand presence,
collaborating with the Communications Manager to ensure alignment
with the FHF US Brand Strategy. - Relationship Development: Develops ongoing
relationships with major donors. Accountable for cultivating
relationships for individual fundraising. Cultivates relationships
with individual donors personally and meets the donor needs i.e.
facilitate program visits, connection to programs, regular updates
and reporting. - Giving Circle: Work closely with the Campaign
& Philanthropy Manager to execute the Vision Circle
programming, engage prospects, solicit Vision Circle gifts, and
steward donors that strengthens their financial support of our
programs and genuine engagement in The Foundation. - Communications: Advanced presentation skills
and written skills, to assist the wider US team to prepare
correspondence, briefings, and pitches to support donor cultivation
and stewardship efforts across the portfolio. - Global Collaboration:
Collaborate with colleagues on local and global projects and
initiatives as appropriate; liaise with colleagues in other
Foundation fundraising teams to share innovations and best
practices and, where needed, provide support; and interface with
program colleagues around the world to meet donor demands and
organizational fundraising needs.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
- Minimum seven years nonprofit fundraising experience
required. - Proven experience in executing innovative strategies for donor
acquisition, retention growth and recapture and proven success with
complex requests is required. - Strong understanding of the philanthropic landscape in the US
and on the West Coast and associated trends. - Demonstrated experience building long term relationships to
deliver growth against targets. - Experience in asking for and closing gifts of five-to-six
figures or more. - Experience working with cross-functional, cross-cultural teams
in a complex global organization highly desired. - Experience briefing and working with C-suite Executives.
