Senior PMEAL Adviser
Location: UK Flexible (but with regular working at Head Office, London)
Permanent Contract
Hours per week: 35 (typically 9 – 5, Mon – Fri)
Salary Range: £50,463 – £55,000 DOE (plus London Weighting of £3,344, if applicable) per annum

The British Red Cross (BRC) are recruiting for a dynamic senior professional to work within the PMEAL Advisory team. The overall purpose of the role is to provide leadership that supports and facilitates quality programming and stronger National Societies.  

A day in the life of our Senior PMEAL Adviser

In this vital role you will provide leadership on performance management and programme quality, to design and deliver effective humanitarian services and programmes. You will ensure that BRC has a high-quality approach to PMEAL and has a clear framework, procedures and tools. This will enable the achievement of verifiable outcomes and the delivery of our strategy.

You’ll oversee the collection, analysis and utilisation of data and evidence. You’ll guide on how this information is used to improve delivery, quality and fulfil our accountability to communities and donors. You’ll ensure quality control for all reviews and evaluations of BRC supported International programmes and partnerships.

You’ll ensure that the PMEAL Team is supporting management and advisors to monitor project progress, proactively identify and mitigate risk, address challenges, and adapt strategies based on evolving circumstances. You’ll lead the design and utilisation of performance management tools and ensure that staff are working within these frameworks. You’ll take a central role in the development of capability within your area, ensuring skills development training and learning opportunities are available to all relevant stakeholders.

The role is all about collaboration. Every day you’ll be working closely with BRC country and technical teams, and our National Society partners. The role will also support other teams such as the Cash, Livelihoods, and other technical areas on request and in agreement with the PMEAL team.

This role will involve some short periods of international travel (individual trips of 1 – 2 weeks, totalling up to three months of the year) and may require you to work in a physically demanding environment.
 
To be a successful Senior PMEAL Adviser you should have:

  • A good knowledge of PMEAL theory and methodologies within the international humanitarian or development sector. Proven PMEAL technical and advisory expertise in international, cross-cultural contexts. You will have significant hands-on experience of monitoring, evaluation, and impact assessment.
  • Great communication and collaboration skills. Ability to establish effective relationships with internal and external project and programme partners. Confidence when communicating to different audiences and when persuading or influencing decision makers.
  • People management experience. Demonstratable ability to lead organisational change. Ability to coach and inspire your team.
  • It is essential that you have field-level experience that includes designing and implementing key PMEAL approaches, such as establishing and managing complaint and feedback mechanisms, 2-way information sharing, behaviour change communication initiatives and community-led design of programmes.
