The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.
The Strategy and Policy directorates exists to protect the public through whole of National Scheme strategy, policy, engagement and regulatory governance functions that are effective and responsive. The directorate provides high quality services that are national and run across the professions we regulate. The directorate works in partnership with National Boards and collaboratively with accreditation authorities and key partners.
The Senior Policy and Project Officer supports the Podiatry Board with a key focus on the policy and projects relating to the Board’s response to the recommendations from the independent review of the regulation of podiatric surgeons to ensure that the deliverables are met.
This is a full time fixed term (12 months) position and is open to all Ahpra locations.
In this role you will:
- Lead the development of agenda and policy papers and other regulatory documents as required as part of the policy, project and engagement work related to relevant Board projects
- Manage project activities, milestones and budgets and overall policy and project organisation to ensure requirements and project deliverable dates are clearly communicated, understood and executed
- Undertake research regarding relevant policy, project and professional matters
- Proactively consult with relevant internal and external stakeholders to obtain relevant contemporary information to inform policy and project development and / or to gain an indication of the likely impact of proposed policies, standards or guidelines
- Develop and maintain trusted relationships with the National Board, relevant committee members, and internal and external stakeholders
- Provide support to the Executive Officer and relevant Board Committees.
As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following:
- Degree in regulation, project management or equivalent and/or relevant experience
- Expertise in the delivery of secretariat functions including secretariat and governance aspects, preferably within a complex regulatory environment
- High level experience in research and development of policy advice, ideally relating to health practitioner regulation
- High level experience in interpreting and applying legislative, policy and procedural requirements as they relate to a regulatory environment
- High level conceptual, analytical and written communication skills
- High level project and time management, planning and organisational skills
- Strong stakeholder engagement, relationship building and influencing skills
- Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, ability to work collaboratively in teams and manage relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
