About the Role

This exciting opportunity will see the Senior Policy Officer – Safety, Operations & Maintenance work closely with our industry partners and government agencies to ensure effective practices in industry and appropriate regulatory settings from government to manage issues relating to safety, operations and maintenance at large-scale renewable energy assets, including wind and solar farms, big batteries, hydro and pumped hydro.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Through a process of industry engagement and performance tracking, develop a thorough understanding of the safety needs within the clean energy sector and collaborate with industry stakeholders to develop plans for addressing key improvement areas, including through the development of an annual safety report for the sector.
  • Building strong relationships with the CEC’s membership (spanning the full spectrum of renewable energy industry participants), safety regulators, relevant government agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Connecting with stakeholders through attendance at various events and technical forums and lead relevant committees and working groups across the portfolio, which will include scheduling and convening meetings and managing relevant meeting content.
  • Developing and disseminating policy positions to promote best practice approaches and standards across the broader industry.
  • Lead the CEC’s response to consultation processes relevant to safety, operations and maintenance of large-scale renewable energy assets.

About You

Ideally, you will have at least 5 years’ relevant experience, which may have been gained in professional consulting, government or another similar environment.

You will be tertiary qualified in engineering, law, policy or other related discipline, and your background experience, intellectual approach, curious nature and resourcefulness will enable you to successfully navigate complex government policy and frameworks that support the renewable energy transformation. Previous experience with safety relating to infrastructure assets and/or operations and maintenance of renewable energy facilities is required. Confidence in building and maintaining suitable systems for tracking and reporting on safety performance combined with a solid background in research with strong analytical skills is required.

A natural communicator, you have the demonstrated ability to prepare and present logical, succinct material to a varied audience, and to convene groups of people to achieve shared outcomes. You will also have strong conceptual and analytical skills with the agility to easily shift from the technical to strategic mindset, as well as strong time management skills with the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.
