In this full-time, permanent position you will be the DFV Specialist Practitioner working in close partnership with QPS to deliver a range of supports aimed at improving the safety of victim-survivors who present to the Mt Isa Police Station. The position will also contribute to improving service system integration between QPS and other agencies and will be based at Mt Isa Police Station.

 

You will make a difference by:

  • Undertaking crisis intervention including risk and needs assessment and safety planning to address the immediate needs of the victim-survivor.
  • Assist police to engage with the victim-survivor by building trust and rapport.
  • Promote better understanding of the dynamics of gender, power and control and the ability to identify and respond to the patterns of behaviour over time that constitute DFV, taking into consideration the relationship as a whole.
  • Strengthen the identification of the person most in need of protection in the relationship as a whole.
  • Promote holding persons using violence to account.
  • Promote information sharing practices in accordance with Section 5A of the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012.
  • Strengthen collaboration and knowledge sharing to help build capacity and capability within the police service and across the DFV specialist service system.
  • Improve service system integration, including promoting better understanding of agency roles and responsibilities.

You’re an experienced Domestic and Family Violence practitioner who is passionate about supporting families within a child centred, strengths-based framework. Importantly, you have a strong understanding of the impact of trauma on children and their families and you’re keenly aware of the additional impacts and barriers experienced by Indigenous families.

Bringing your best every day, means:

  • Demonstrated experience in case management and knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Ability to build effective relationships, liaise and work collaboratively with program stakeholders, community members, relevant Government and non-Government organisations
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and families.
  • Strong report writing, analytical and evaluation skills, including data collation and analysis.
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or significant experience working in a similar service.
