The Lemur Conservation Foundation (LCF) is a 130-acre, AZA-certified facility dedicated to preserving and conserving Madagascar’s primates through managed breeding, scientific research, education, and art. LCF hosts educational programs and facilities, including a field training school, internships, and visiting scholars. At its Myakka City lemur reserve, 55 lemurs representing six species live in family groups and multi-species habitats. LCF operates multiple conservation programs both from the reserve and through an office in Madagascar. Established in 1996, LCF is a leader in conservation, incorporating art into outreach programs and maintaining successful managed breeding programs in the U.S.

Role

LCF is seeking an experienced primate keeper for a working manager position with growth potential. The Senior Primate Keeper will collaborate closely with the Curator and, as the animal care team’s second in command, will supervise staff and animal-related operations when the Curator is offsite/off duty.

The Senior Keeper will be responsible for the day-to-day animal care, health, and welfare of the lemur collection, including feeding, habitat maintenance, medication, and enrichment activities. Additional duties will include training and supervising staff and interns, conducting occasional educational tours, and occasionally assisting with non-invasive research projects. The role also requires maintaining detailed records and collaborating with veterinary staff and conservation partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a life sciences or related field and at least three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
• Primate experience required – minimum one year, three years or more highly desirable
• Supervisory and training skills and a passion for mentorship, with experience managing interns, volunteers and/or staff
• Excellent communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to collaborate with veterinary staff and conservation partners
• Record keeping accuracy and experience; familiarity with Species360 a plus
• Commitment to conservation and educational missions

Salary

• Salary range is $35,000-$45,000 commensurate with experience, with room to grow. Please send salary requirements with your application.
