Context/Reporting line:
IOM supports the Ministry of Health in Iraq to increase access to quality primary health care services for internally displaced populations inside and outside camps, IDPs returning to their areas of origin, and hosting communities.
Under the overall supervision of the Migration Health Coordinator, the administrative supervision of the Head of Sub Office (HoSO) and the direct Supervision of the National Project Officer (Health Promotion and Community Health), the successful incumbent will perform the following duties:
Core Functions / Responsibilities
- Under the guidance of the National Community Health Officer, implement community health programming, including health promotion and community-based initiatives in the duty station in accordance with IOM guidelines and standards.
- Coordinate the implementation of health promotion, and community health services including door-to-door visits, facility-based awareness sessions, community-based awareness sessions, individual sessions, and campaigns reaching different groups of beneficiaries of all ages, genders, ethnic backgrounds, and socio-economic groups.
- Organize training sessions for community health promoters on topics related to health promotion for priority health topics at the community level, communication strategies, and managing and responding to misinformation.
- Provide, coordination, support, and training/refresher training to community health promoters on data collection tools and data entry best practices.
- Ensure timely collection, analysis, and reporting of data collected during community health field activities; review collected data for inaccuracies/inconsistencies and liaise with the National Community Health Officer and Information Management team to correct and update relevant database(s).
- Monitor and analyze health facility and community health issues and share information with the National Program Officer – Team Leader and the National Community Health Officer highlighting any changes in the situation or new developments requiring attention.
- Support the adaptation and implementation of community-led activities raising in close coordination with local authorities and community-based organizations and platforms.
- Provide weekly activity reports highlighting achievements, challenges, and key follow-up actions, and recommendations for future improvement.
- Attend the assigned capacity building activities as directed by the supervisor.
- Perform additional tasks within the scope of work, as requested by the supervisor.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in any related field in Public Health or Social Sciences from an accredited academic university or institution.
Experience and Skills:
- At least four years of relevant experience.
- The ideal candidates will have skills and experiences that demonstrate flexibility, excellent communication skills, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving.
- Experience in health-related programs is an asset.
- Experience working in primary healthcare facility setting or humanitarian settings.
- Ability to comfortably conduct and interact with beneficiaries during door-to-door visits, group briefings, and lead sessions with a sufficient level of communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and respect for all people.
- Ability to gain and build trust with communities and local leaders, strong networking and respectful negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability and motivation to learn and gain new skills.
- Demonstrated skills in organization and management, accountability documentation and routine tracking tools.
- Good organization and able to handle many tasks at once.
Languages:
- Fluency in English, Kurdish (Kimanji) and Arabic is required
