Context

  • Under the overall supervision of the Project Coordinator and direct supervision of the Senior Project Associate, as well as in collaboration with relevant units at the main office in Sofia, the Senior Project Associate (Social Worker – Safe Zone) will be responsible and accountable for implementing child protection activities in support of unaccompanied minors (UAMs) accommodated in the Safe Zone for UAMs in the Registration and Reception Center (RRC) in Sofia – Ovcha Koupel.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Safe Zone supervisor in the planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of project activities. 
  • Compile, summarize, analyse, and present information/data on projects related to the Safe Zone for UAMs, highlighting noteworthy issues for the consideration of appropriate parties.
  • Support the coordination of project implementation, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units at the main office in Sofia and external partner organizations, including the State Agency for Refugees (SAR) and the UAMs’ legal representatives, to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, follow-up on administrative actions, etc.
  • Draft weekly activity reports; identify shortfalls in delivery, bring them to the attention of the supervisor and suggest corrective measures. 
  • Draft correspondence on project issues related to the Safe Zone; prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, and other forms of documentation.
  • Support the organization of meetings, workshops and training sessions; prepare training materials and participate in the delivering of capacity building workshops.
  • Respond to complex information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records.
  • Participate in meetings and conferences; maintain effective liaison and coordination with local authorities, partners, United Nation agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors and other stakeholders relevant to the project. 
  • Provide administrative support for the development of new projects. 
  • Provides support to the other social workers in the Safe Zone and support the supervisor in the monitoring of their work. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma with six years of relevant experience; or,
  • Bachelor’s degree in political or social sciences, international relations, development studies, migration studies, human rights, law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations; 
  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage;
  • Prior work experience with unaccompanied minors is an advantage.
