About Bristol Green Capital Partnership

Bristol Green Capital Partnership is a unique network of 1,100+ member organisations in Bristol
and the surrounding region. Our purpose is to catalyse collective citywide action towards a zero
carbon, socially just Bristol where our communities and nature thrive.

We collaborate with policy makers, the public sector, businesses, charities, communities, and underrepresented groups to create positive change across climate, nature and social justice.

We are a growing and ambitious team working on impactful citywide projects on climate, nature
and social justice. We have a new brand launching soon, including a new name and website, and over
the next 18 months we will continue to expand the reach and impact of our engagement with both businesses and communities through new collaborations and grant-funded projects. Please follow
our social channels for more information about our new name and brand, launching 1 February 2024.

About the role

We are looking for someone passionate about supporting a just transition to net zero in
communities to join our friendly Bristol-based team.

Our organisation will be playing a key role in the delivery of Mission Net Zero, a new Innovate
UK grant-funded project (running February 2024 – October 2025) which aims to accelerate the
regions transition to net zero.  The purpose of this new role will be to work closely with our Community Climate Action Project team and a consortium of external project partners (including Centre for
Sustainable Energy, Bristol City Council and Bristol Energy Network) to engage community organisations and support them to take climate action as part of the city and regional ambitions to reach net
zero in a fast and fair way. Specifically, the project will support three selected community-based
organisations to engage their respective communities and develop plans for sustainable energy and
decarbonisation projects in their local area based on local need, with co-production principles, inclusion and
equity at the core of the approach.

We are looking for someone who is skilled in project coordination/management and has
demonstrable experience of engaging diverse communities and working with the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector. Our ideal candidate will be able to communicate clearly and
inclusively, take a creative approach to new challenges, and will be proactive in identifying synergies across
this project and the wider Partnership programme to bring maximum benefit to the communities who are the heart of this project.

Main responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with external project partners (primarily Centre for Sustainable Energy)
to support the programme of work with three community-based organisations (who will be selected through an expression of interest process between February – May 2024). This may  include:
    • Attending and supporting capacity-building workshops with the three selected community organisations and other project partners, utilising the connections and expertise from within the Partnership network to support the successful development of their community engagement and project plans.
    • Working within the Partnership team to ensure successful alignment of project activities with our existing programme, primarily the Community Climate Action Project, in addition to facilitating engagement with city governance forums currently supported by the Partnership (One City Environment Board, Bristol Advisory Committee on Climate Change and Community Leadership Panel on Climate & Just Transition).
  • Support the design, delivery, and coordination of an inclusive engagement programme to enable a wider range of organisations from across the West of England region (primarily Bristol) to develop and accelerate their community climate action, and to disseminate learnings and insights from the project to a wide range of stakeholders and community organisations to effectively inform and shape the regions efforts to reach net zero. This may include:
    • Organising and leading planning meetings with project partners.
    • Collaboratively planning and delivering a range of events and workshops (online and in person) bringing together different stakeholders, climate experts and community organisations to share knowledge, learnings and practical tools and advice.
    • Developing accompanying accessible resources and materials for local and national dissemination.
    • Working with the Communications & Engagement Manager to plan and produce blogs, videos, presentations, graphics or reports
  • Representing the Partnership within the wider project consortium and working with a newly commissioned freelance Project Inclusion Associate, to help shape wider project processes and ensure community-focus and equity, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the project.
  • Developing relationships with a range of project stakeholders (including local and regional authorities, consultants, local stakeholders, energy organisations and groups) to ensure our activities are embedded within other strands of project activity.
  • Ensuring all activities are accessible to organisations with different needs and delivered in
line with the ways of working developed through the Community Climate Action Project.
  • Monitoring and reporting on project spend, working closely with the Head of Operations.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of our work with communities and reporting on learnings as part of our grant requirements to project leads (Bristol City Council) and funder (Innovate
    UK)
  • Support the Partnership’s Communications team with the promotion of targeted communications to ensure our programmes benefit target beneficiaries.

Benefits

Our organisation aims to create an inclusive working environment where all employees have the
space to breathe, learn, share, and grow. Benefits include:

  • Company Healthcare Cash Plan and Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Two team wellbeing half days each year.
  • Cycle to Work scheme.
  • Climate Perks scheme, offering paid ‘journey days’ to staff who travel on holiday by train, coach or boat instead of flying.
  • Training and development opportunities and collaborative working groups (focusing on Just Transition and Climate Action Plan).

Employees benefit from a flexible approach to working hours and there is scope to work remotely
by agreement, however some office-based working in our central Bristol office will be important (particularly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays).

For more information on the Person Specification and How to Apply please see our full application pack.

If you have any questions or would like an informal discussion about the role, please email
questions to [email protected] along with your phone number. We will aim to get back to you within 3 working days. We are unable to offer sponsorship for work permits or visa
applications. Only applicants with the right to work in the UK will be considered.

Deadline for applications: Monday 5 February, 9am
Interviews: Online on Thursday 22 or Friday 23 February
Start date: 8 April 2024 (there may be some flexibility for the right
candidate)
