Senior Project Manager will have primary responsibility for the effective implementation of the EU-funded project FORCES – Fighting Organised Crime for the benefit of the Environment and Security for TRAFFIC International Europe. Senior Project Manager, supported by the Project Support Officer and Finance and Administration Officer, will assume the responsibility for the management of FORCES project on behalf of TRAFFIC International Europe ensuring effective delivery, monitoring of progress, timely reporting, and liaison with partners.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the delivery of the EU-funded project FORCES for TRAFFIC.
  • Leads the implementation of selected FORCES project activities and specific tasks, and guides other TRAFFIC staff on implementation of tasks allocated to them.
  • Coordinates liaison with FORCES project partners, and a wide range of stakeholders in Europe and across priority wildlife trafficking routes.
  • Represents TRAFFIC and project in international meetings and conferences as appropriate, and reports back on these meetings.
  • Leads FORCES monitoring and evaluation, preparation and submission of technical and financial reports.
  • Reports on TRAFFIC’s programme implementation in Europe, as relevant to the project responsibilities, and wider law enforcement context.
  • Leads on TRAFFIC engagement with select policy processes and law enforcement for in the European Union, including but not limited to the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT).
  • Leads on the development of the wildlife law enforcement programme and priority funding proposals for TRAFFIC in Europe.
  • Responds to general enquiries, and those concerning the project, that are directed to TRAFFIC in Europe as appropriate.
  • Leads overall implementation of FORCES project activities and objectives for TRAFFIC International Europe.
  • Leads on the delivery of particular FORCES project activities, in collaboration with project partners.
  • Coordinates and leads on the engagement with project partners and stakeholders.
  • Ensures timely, effective and comprehensive technical and financial project reporting.
  • Leads on TRAFFIC engagement with select policy processes in the European Union, including but not limited to the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT).
  • Represents TRAFFIC Europe at appropriate international meetings.
  • Coordinates TRAFFIC representation in a selection of wildlife law enforcement fora in the European Union, in close collaboration with other TRAFFIC Europe staff.

Requirements:

  • At least eight years of NGO project management experience, ideally managing the EU-funded projects.
  • University qualifications in ecology, resource management, environmental policy or law, or a similar field, preferably related to wildlife trade.
  • Practical experience in international wildlife conservation preferably with government or an international Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) / Inter-governmental Organisation (IGO);
  • A good understanding of international nature conservation laws and agreements, and of relevant regulations and legislation in the European Union and in other European regions;
  • Understanding of legislative and policy issues pertaining to wildlife trade and conservation, including the implementation of CITES;
  • Ability to work under pressure and to set own work priorities as appropriate and a capacity to meet deadlines;
  • Strong skills in spoken and written English; fluency in other languages used in the European Union (preferably French, German, Spanish) or in EU neighbouring countries, an advantage;
  • Strong communication, analytical and presentation skills, including strong writing abilities in the English language;
  • An ability to work co-operatively as part of a small team with strong inter-personal skills and an ability to work in different cultural contexts;
  • Familiarity with the goals and operation of TRAFFIC is desirable;
  • Willing and able to travel;
  • Must be eligible to work in the EU.
