Wetlands are not only amongst our most nature rich habitats, they provide numerous benefits
that can help mitigate the impacts of climate change. WWT is on a mission to restore over
100,000 ha of new wetlands to help reverse centuries of wetland loss in the UK, but also to
show how critical wetlands are to our wider environment.
We are recruiting a Senior Project Manager to lead and manage WWT input to two major, funded,
urban wetland restoration projects, Slough Sponge City and Community Bluescapes (based in
Barnes, London). The projects will deliver multiple benefits for wildlife and people through a
community co-production process, mitigating the impacts of climate change and flooding through
nature based solutions.
Role Outline
- To project manage the delivery of two major urban wetland restoration projects that will be
co-created through engagement with local communities, Slough Sponge city and Community
Bluescapes in Richmond. Projects that will deliver multiple benefits for wildlife and people. - To work collaboratively with other partners involved in the projects including Slough and
Richmond Borough Councils, the National Flood Forum and Barnes Common Ltd to maximise the
impact of project delivery. - Work with our Community Action Managers and our partners to establish an effective
co-production process with the communities living within the ‘Future Proofed Neighbourhood’
areas, to help to identify appropriate interventions that will build community resilience to
climate change including flooding, boost health and well-being and aid urban nature recovery - To manage the co-ordination of project workstreams including ‘Community Engagement and
Communications’ and ‘Monitoring and Evaluation’ through dedicated staff members and working
closely with other WWT teams and specialist leads. - To manage the delivery of project interventions via the Nature Based Solutions Project
Manager, involving multiple external and WWT stakeholders, local residents, consultants and
contractors across feasibility, design, consent and construction stages, being aware of and
mitigating project risks.
About You
We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience who wants to make a
difference on behalf of communities and wildlife in urban areas:
- Previous experience of managing successful large-scale, complex, multi-stakeholder projects
involving community engagement, managing consultants and civil engineering contracts as well as
a strong awareness of current thinking and trends in community co-production and urban nature
based solutions - Experience of project design, planning and evaluation
- Proven experience in networking, partnership building and relationship management as well
as an excellent track record of building and managing teams
The successful candidate will be able to work from home (or hybrid working from WWT London
Wetlands Centre is possible). It is expected the role will need to attend project areas in
Slough and Richmond on a weekly basis and as required for key meetings. A current driving
licence is essential, as is a willingness to travel regularly, staying away from home as and
when required.
