The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is now available for a Senior Project Officer to join the Vector-Borne Diseases and Tropical Public Health team at Burnet!

In this role you will work closely with the Project Managers, the finance and administration teams, as well as in-country team members and technical staff, providing essential support and coordination to a range of VBDTPH projects and linked activities delivered in the Pacific. Working in an experienced team of development professionals, you will contribute to project implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as grant, contract, and financial reporting of VBD projects within the VBDTPH Working Group.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Collecting staff reporting inputs and project data, collating data, and formatting reports, briefs and other deliverables.
  • Coordinating project activities, such as workshops, and conference attendance.
  • Coordinating contracts and sub-contracts and ensuring contract compliance
  • Supporting writing and managing of grant applications
  • Providing back up budget management when other Project Managers are on leave
  • Liaising with Burnet HR teams in Melbourne and PNG on matters that affect staff members.

This is a full time (open to 0.8 – 1.0 FTE) , 12-month contract with possibility of extension. You will have flexible working hours as well as part time working from home options.

Let’s talk about you

The following criteria are essential requirements:

  • Qualification in International Development, Public Health or equivalent relevant experience for 1-3 years at a senior project coordination level
  • Highly developed organisational and administrative skills supporting complex projects or programs.
  • Experience and understanding of project related finances, e.g. Budgeting, forecasting, acquittals and payment processing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and understanding of cultural sensitivity, including the ability to engage with a diverse range of people.
  • Strong judgement and problem-solving skills.

The following criteria are preferable but not essential:

  • Experience with contract management or writing grant applications.
  • Experience applying a GEDSI (Gender Equality, Disability & Social Inclusion) analytical lens to international development or public health activities.
  • Experience in supporting the monitoring, evaluation and reporting of projects.
