About The RoleBrand New Role – Glasgow Area / Hybrid Working – PermanentThe UK has set out its ambition to be and the energy industry is responding – together we are building a cleaner, greener Britain.The Scotland England Green Link project portfolio consists of a number of Joint Venture mega projects circa £5 billion per project which will play a critical role in the achievement of the UK’s net zero targets, connecting the low carbon electricity resources in the north of Scotland to demand centres in the south.The project is implementing a progressive approach to delivering Zero Harm to people, communities, the environment and through a fair contribution to society through collaborative, engaging and innovative approaches with internal and external stakeholders.We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Project SHE Manager to join the Senior Leadership Team and play a pivotal role in establishing a proactive culture with supporting behaviours and systems to ensure safe, reliable and compliant organisational and project activities across out portfolio of projects.These projects are fast paced and dynamic. As such you need to be a resourceful self-starter, capable of leading and delivering at pace.The Senior SHE Manager will hold a position within the Eastern Green Link (EGL) Portfolio Leadership Team. This role entails collaborating with the EGL Board, Contract Partners, Senior Leadership Teams, and other senior stakeholders to ensure the integration of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) practices across the portfolio. This involves leveraging support from various project functional areas such as Engineering, Project Delivery, Consents, Procurement, and the Project Management Office.The primary responsibilities of the Senior SHE Manager include setting and continuously monitoring compliance and performance standards. This involves verifying the resources necessary to meet the ambitious activities of the projects within the portfolio. Additionally, the Senior SHE Manager will ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements associated with the projects.By working closely with the EGL Portfolio Leadership Team and partnering with key stakeholders, the Senior SHE Manager will play a vital role in maintaining a proactive approach to HSE delivery. This will contribute to the overall success of the projects and help establish a culture of safety and compliance throughout the organization.This role is based at our Glasgow office, and we continue to offer from office and home.

  • Demonstrable leadership within SHE, setting of behavioural standards and cementing intolerance to risk in the workplace.
  • Skills in collaboration, coaching, listening to others, developing relationships, and resilience to do the right thing and develop a ‘Safe to Say’ approach
  • Strong influencing skills both at senior and line organisational level.
  • A clear record of working with contractors to influence performance and outcomes of a safe working site.
  • Technical knowledge of holistic, health, safety, well-being, environment, human factors, investigations and emergency response management and risk control – UK onshore /marine.
  • Knowledge and skills applying positive SHE cultures.
  • Leadership skills in event investigation, root cause analysis and human error and violation models.
  • Knowledge of risk management, philosophies and techniques
  • SHE Leadership experience in the energy and / or civil/electrical engineering construction sectors.
  • Experience in the strategic development, setting up and on-going management of SHE and performance management systems.

  • You will develop and continuously improve an integrated SHE management strategy, systems, tools and culture to drive the delivery of Zero Harm, thinking strategically and developing tactical plans that deliver strategic goals.
  • Providing clear direction and prioritisation on HSE risks and their management through application of the principals of inherent safe design and as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP) in addition to identifing best practices, analysis and learning to create a culture of continuous improvement.
  • You’ll be accountable for the development and implementation of specific short, medium, and long term SHE improvement and verification plans, based on risk. Applicable to internal self-verification, assurance, and audit, as well as contractor oversight.
  • Driving positive relationships, you’ll ensure implementation of the EGL Project Partnership Commitments.
  • Shaping and driving delivery of the human performance and leadership across EGL, you’ll contribute to the human factors in design, operation, and maintenance as requirements for major projects.
  • Providing clear direction and prioritisation on SHE risks and objectives, you’ll deploy resource from within the team to support the Project Teams.

What You’ll GetA competitive starting salary between £70,000 – £90,000 dependent on capability and vehicle (hybrid or fully electric car)As well as your base salary, a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
