The teamThe role of the Senior Proposals Manager is at the forefront of our marketing and sales efforts. As such, proposal support is a core service delivered by the Brand, Clients & Markets function to the business.The Proposals team of three sits within the wider Brand, Clients & Markets team of c.50, located in London, Bristol, Hong Kong and Singapore.The roleReporting to the Director of Brand, Clients & Markets, the Senior Proposals Manager is responsible for leading the pitch and proposals function.We’re looking for someone to cover 12 months’ maternity leave. Not someone who just wants to keep things ticking over. But someone with the energy, dynamism and enthusiasm to hit the ground running and leave the function in a better place than they found it.In particular, during this period of maternity cover, they will work alongside senior colleagues to drive through a pre-defined programme of change and improvement. This follows a review of our pitch function from an independent third party, who produced a report recommending the implementation of several fundamental changes to the way the function operates. This report will act as the blueprint for this fixed-term role.We are also partway through a project to implement pitch automation software – taking over the SME role in seeing this through to conclusion is also key.During busy periods, the Senior Proposals Manager will be expected to roll up their sleeves, either leading or supporting on the management and delivery of larger, panel style (often procurement led), cross-group pitches.The role would be suitable for a Senior Proposals Manager who is not only experienced in the pitch process but who also can understand the strategic context in which the firm operates, influence senior stakeholders in driving through change, and manage projects in a rigorous and disciplined fashion.ResponsibilitiesDeveloping the firm’s capability

  • Interpreting and implementing recommendations from the review of RPC’s proposals function
  • Promoting, developing and driving engagement with the firm’s new recommended proposal methodology
  • Working with the core project team to launch proposals automation product
  • Working with the Heads of Business/Client Development and the Learning & Development team to lead the development and delivery of bid training for fee earners
  • Interpreting feedback from post-pitch reviews and using intelligence to inform continuous improvement

Managing the firm’s approach to proposals

  • Reaffirming and reinforcing the importance of the proposal process as a critical element of RPC’s growth strategy
  • Being the central point of contact and champion for all competitive pitches
  • Role-modelling best practice and the right mindset
  • Managing resources – supporting the team in working alongside the relevant BD Manager and/or the lawyer allocated to the proposal – as well as other stakeholders – to co-ordinate the delivery of the documentation with the Creative Services team
  • Collaborating across RPC’s offices in London, Bristol, Hong Kong, and Singapore, working closely with Business Services colleagues and fee earners to ensure a cohesive and aligned approach to proposals and business development
  • During busy periods, taking the lead on delivering specific proposals to relieve the pressure on the team, as well as supporting in other areas, for example:
  • Qualifying new proposal opportunities (bid/no bid)
  • Company, stakeholder, and competitor intelligence gathering
  • Coaching orals/preparing presentations
  • Post decision reviews

People management

  • Line management of the wider team of one Manager and one Executive
  • Act as a mentor and coach, providing guidance on best practices, strategic thinking, and stakeholder management to enhance the team’s effectiveness
  • Oversee workload distribution, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and that the team is equipped to handle peak periods
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation, knowledge-sharing, and professional growth within the team.

  • A rigorous and disciplined project manager
  • Experience project managing and advising on major panel tenders
  • Energised and organised – very busy, multitasking, able to work to deadlines
  • Evidence of excellent Partner management skills, ideally gained within a professional services environment
  • A relevant post-graduate management or marketing qualification such as an MBA, CIM or equivalent would be advantageous
  • Stature and gravitas – is professional, credible and impactful and confident with persuading and influencing at all levels
  • Relationship development – ability to build trusted relationships with key internal stakeholders (Partners and BD Managers)
  • Highly commercial with a real interest in business
  • Strong copywriting skills
  • Excellent IT skills – all Microsoft packages
