Job Summary 

 

The Hope and Healing Program meets the physical and mental needs of vulnerable families in Sinjar through mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS). The Senior Psychiatric Officer (SPO) position serves a crucial role on the MHPSS team facilitating beneficiary appointments with the psychiatrist and helping manage the medication voucher component of the program. SPO will conduct psychological home visits, maintain case notes, review case progress, and help oversee case management for beneficiaries. The SPO will work collaboratively with the rest of the MHPSS team to develop personalized treatment plans for clients and provide them with psychoeducation. He or she will play a key role in supporting clients in making informed decisions about their mental health and act as a mentor to members of the MHPSS team as they develop their skills. The SPO will develop and maintain working relationships with medical clinics and mental health practitioners throughout the area to ensure beneficiaries have access to the services they need. Additional responsibilities may include leading support groups and helping to plan and implement community events to increase awareness about mental health and wellness.

 

Job Duties:

 

1- Serve staff and beneficiaries with creativity, kindness, and generosity

2- Help patients make informed decisions by acting as their advocate regarding their clinical status and treatment options

3- Coordinate and make referrals to other health care providers in the area for beneficiary care

4- Maintain beneficiaries files following standards. Ensure all information is kept confidential and clinical records and is kept securely

5- Serve as part of MHPSS leadership team providing insight to Program Manager and supporting with staff supervision and management

6- Assess and address motivational and psychosocial issues among individuals and in the community

7- Facilitate beneficiary appointments with the psychiatrist

9- Work with Program Manager & Program Coordinator to manage the medication voucher component of the program

10- Work with the Program Coordinator to handle case assignments and draft treatment plans, review case progress and determine case closure.

11- Carry out regular psychological beneficiary home visits

12- Lead support groups and other mental health related trainings and workshops as necessary

13- Help with the implementation of community events

14- Translate mental health curriculums as needed

15- Complete administrative tasks for the mental health team

  2. Experience working in the field (Snuni and surrounding villages) or in high stress situations.

  5. Must be a self-starter and internally driven to success and hard work.
  6. Possesses strong cross-cultural communication skills, both written and verbal.
  7. Must be a humble team player.

  9. He/she must have analytical and report writing skills.

Education / Experience Needed

– Degree in Psychology, Psychotherapy, Psychiatry or related fields necessary

– Experience working with Psychiatrist 

– Previous experience supporting beneficiaries with medication management

– Case management experience necessary 

 

LANGUAGE 

High working proficiency in Arabic, Kurdish (Kurmanji) and English.
