Role Overview

The Senior Quantitative Researcher will design and implement the quantitative component of the baseline study, generating statistically robust estimates of child labour prevalence and characteristics in construction and brick-making sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop sampling strategies suitable for informal and hard-to-enumerate populations (e.g., site-based or cluster sampling).
  • Design survey instruments aligned with ILO child labour measurement standards.
  • Oversee enumerator training with emphasis on child protection and ethical data collection.
  • Supervise data collection processes, including quality assurance and spot checks.
  • Manage data cleaning, validation, and statistical analysis.
  • Produce estimates on prevalence, working conditions, hours worked, school attendance, and risk exposure.
  • Analyze key determinants (e.g., household poverty, displacement status, access to services).
  • Integrate findings with qualitative insights for comprehensive reporting.
  • Develop clear visualizations and technical outputs for policy use.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

 

  • Advanced degree in Statistics, Economics, Demography, or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in survey design and quantitative analysis.
  • Experience working with labour force surveys, household surveys, or child labour data preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in statistical software (Stata, R, SPSS, or Python).
  • Experience in fragile or conflict-affected settings, ideally Iraq.
  • Fluency in English required; Arabic/Kurdish is an advantage.

Additional Notes for Positions

  • Strong understanding of ILO conventions on child labour (C138 and C182) is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in construction, brick kiln economies, or informal labour sectors is a significant asset.
  • Commitment to child safeguarding, gender equality, and inclusion is essential.
