The Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission (GEDC) is a Western Australian Government agency committed to promoting economic development in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia.

The GEDC works in partnership with government, industry and the community to deliver investment and economic outcomes in the regions.

We are seeking candidates for a number of regional development positions in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Esperance to work across the Goldfields-Esperance region.

About the opportunity

The GEDC is seeking Senior Regional Development Officers (Level 6) and Regional Development Officers (Level 4 and 5) for vacant positions based in both Kalgoorlie and Esperance.

In these roles you will work as part of a regionally based team on a wide range of economic and community development programs, projects, investments, issues and opportunities for the Goldfields-Esperance region.

Successful candidates will work across a range of economic and community development areas and with a variety of stakeholders, depending on their skillset, experience and GEDC’s business plan requirements. This includes:

  • Infrastructure planning and projects
  • Land, planning and development planning and projects
  • Aboriginal economic development
  • Workforce development
  • Government, community and industry engagement
  • Project and business case development
  • Research, economic and data analysis for a range of regional development matters
  • Preparing studies and submissions for a range of regional development matters
  • Grants program management
  • Events, conferences and forums

All candidates must demonstrate the following skills (appropriate to level they have applied for) to be considered for the positions:

  • Highly developed written skills to produce high quality reports, studies, Ministerial briefings, Board briefings and other written content and publications for the GEDC.
  • Highly developed communication skills to provide verbal briefings, represent the agency at forums and meetings with a diverse range of stakeholders, undertake regional engagement, and to build and maintain stakeholder relationships and networks for regional intelligence and partnership working. Ability to facilitate and influence discussions to leverage regional outcomes.
  • Demonstrated research and data analysis skills to prepare reports, studies, undertake projects and develop project proposals and business cases for the agency and with stakeholders. This includes proficiency with MS Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Experience in economic modelling is desirable but not essential.
  • Project management skills to plan and coordinate projects independently and support the GEDC team to deliver complex projects and programs. Senior Regional Development Officers (Level 6) candidates will lead more complex projects and programs and provide guidance to other team members and external stakeholders.
  • Keen interest in public service and achieving economic and social outcomes for the State of WA, the region and local communities.

The Ideal Candidate

Ideally, we are looking for individuals with demonstrated experience in economic or regional development or related disciplines, however we will consider other experience with transferable skills.

The successful candidates will demonstrate high level written and verbal communication skills to undertake a range of written and verbal briefings, presentations and community consultation with a diverse mix range of internal and external stakeholders. Candidates for senior roles must demonstrate ability to advise, influence and facilitate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

We are seeking demonstrated experience developing and/or managing projects, government investment and/or programs. Candidates must be able to work independently and as part of a team to develop project and investment concepts and implement projects or programs.

Candidates must be adaptable and responsive to a dynamic work environment and requests for important or urgent information, research or participation in meetings/forums on emerging issues and opportunities.

You will have established networks in the region or within government, industry or the community, or demonstrate your ability to build and maintain networks in order to bring about economic or social outcomes.

You must have a contemporary knowledge of economic development practice, government policy and programs and issues affecting regional Western Australia.
