icddr,b is conducting a study to detect multipathogens from wastewater. The study includes various laboratory methods to detect measles, flue, SASR-CoV-2, Respiratory virus etc. in wastewater which of these pathogens in ES can infer transmission dynamics of the respective diseases in the associated catchment areas.
The Senior Research Assistant reporting to the Research Officer will be involved in wastewater sample collection from the sites, conduct laboratory test, preserve samples, analyze and manage data with the objective of supporting research studies within the guidelines of project-specific field research procedures and organizational values and guidelines. The specific areas of responsibilities are detailed below:
  • Collect wastewater samples from the selected sites, treat those in the laboratory and store samples;
  • Acknowledge about the site selection methods through Blue-line tracing;
  • Extract DNA from treated wastewater samples; Perform traditional and Real-Time PCR, Sequencing etc;
  • Maintain and calibrate PCR & Real – time PCR machine, laboratory equipment for their optimum operation and perform minor trouble shooting;
  • Perform Data Management related activities like, enter laboratory tests data, prepare CRF in excel, input test results in database; Verify a random sample of data entered; Generate critical value list; Act on critical value list in consultation with supervisor; submit results & Store data;
  • Analyze data and report to supervisor;
  • Maintain cold chain for samples, Store in lab freezer for DNA extraction and other lab works;
  • Store extracted DNA/RNA in freezer and ensure preservation of water filter in freezer in appropriate way for further use;
  • Make inventory of laboratory assets and consumables used in the project;
  • Provide support to Senior Staff in processing different biological samples; Perform different molecular tests and escalate issues to supervisor if required.
Required qualifications and experience:
  • Masters in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology;
  • 03 years’ experience in relevant lab research; Candidates having experience in the field of Environmental Surveillance will get priority.
