What We Want

The Senior Research Associate will maintain compliance for multi-species colonies in all Biology department vivarium facilities. They will performs administrative duties such as, accounting, purchasing and receiving along with equipment and chemical inventory, and maintaining records, logs, and various required certifications. In addition, this position will prepare for inspections from agencies such as IACUC, AAALAC, and USDA as well as assist with weekly veterinary visits to the facility. What You Need to Know

Salary Range: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a research related field

  • Four years of related professional experience working with animals

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift, move, and/or carry moderate weighted objects regularly

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Laboratory experience in related research areas

  • Animal handling and animal research procedure experience.

  • Animal husbandry experience

  • Knowledge of TAMU small animal husbandry compliance

  • Veterinary technician certification or license; Animal health technician; related small animal certifications

Responsibilities:

  • Animal Care Supervisor: Primary contact for maintaining compliance for multi-species research colonies in all Biology department vivarium facilities. Performs supportive administrative duties to maintain research standards. Maintains various required certifications and prepares for inspections from agencies. Assists with weekly veterinary visits to the facility. Performs equipment maintenance. Primary contact for research staff regarding research protocol within the vivarium.

  • Supervision/Training: Performs a lead role in hiring, training, and supervision of student research workers. Trains new research personnel and assists regular lab staff in vivarium procedures and safety. Maintains duty rosters to assure coverage for feeding and cleaning of animal rooms.

  • ABSL-2 compliance: Prepares and maintains Animal Biological Safety Level – 2 vivarium facilities for the Biology Department.

  • CLERICAL DUTIES: Performs clerical duties such as purchasing/receiving items, keeping animal records for USDA and AAALAC, and related inspections and performs other duties as assigned.
