The Emerging Infections and Parasitology Laboratory is working on vector-borne and parasitic infections in both humans and animals, including malaria, leishmaniasis, dengue, Japanese Encephalitis, enteric protozoan, and helminth infection. The laboratory scientists conduct research and activities as principal investigators, co-principal investigators, and co-investigators, collaborating with national and international institutes/universities and with different Divisions of icddr,b. The laboratory also works for anti-parasitic drug discovery, diagnostic kit evaluation, G6PD deficiency, and new therapeutic and vaccine trials. The lab is one of the WHO reference laboratories for the prequalification of G6PD diagnostics.

- The Senior Research Officer reporting to Scientist will be required to plan, organize, and implement all activities related to lab research of different projects to conduct high-quality research and implementation of the project activities within the strategy of research protocol as well as organizational values and guidelines. Major responsibilities will include-
- Conduct laboratory assays for vector borne diseases (e.g. Malaria, dengue, JE, filariasis etc.);
- Develop project specific new molecular methods and SOPs;
- Conduct molecular typing for G6PD traits;
- Supervise routine in vitro maintenance of malaria field isolates;
- Supervise the daily activity of Lab Research Officers;
- Perform in-house maintenance and calibration of complex laboratory equipment;
- Assist PI in writing project reports and grant proposals.
Required qualifications and experience:
- M Sc. in Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Genetic Engineering;
- 5 years of relevant laboratory experience.
