The Emerging Infections and Virology Laboratory is working on Viral infections including HIV, HEV, HPV, and most recently SARS-CoV-19 infection. The laboratory scientists conduct research and activities as principal investigators, co-principal investigators, and co-investigators, collaborating with national and international institutes/universities and with different Divisions of icddr,b. The laboratory also works for anti-viral drug discovery, diagnostic kit evaluation, and new therapeutic and vaccine trials.
The Senior Research Officer reporting to Assistant Scientist will be required to plan, organize, and implement all activities related to lab research of different projects to conduct high-quality research and implementation of the project activities within the strategy of research protocol as well as organizational values and guidelines. Major responsibilities will include:
- Plan and implement lab research in viral infections (including HIV, HEV, HPV, and SARS-CoV-19);
- Develop Protocol and present it to RRC and ERC for approval;
- Perform laboratory tests and experiments following the protocol of the affiliated research project that includes: Virus culture, Pseudovirus Neutralization Assay, and reporting;
- Perform in-house maintenance and calibration of complex laboratory equipment like PCR machine, ELISA readers, CO2 incubators, centrifuge machines, etc.;
- Prepare final report for submission to supervisor; Revise final report based on feedback received from supervisor.
- Review the manuscript written by the Research Investigator and provide feedback to support scientific manuscript creation;
- Participate in external quality assurance schemes;
- Mentor young professionals and prepare them for higher responsibilities.
Required qualifications and experience:
- M Sc. in Microbiology/Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Genetic Engineering/Molecular Science;
- 5 years of relevant laboratory experience.
