The Infectious Diseases Division at icddr,b has focused on controlling of enteric and respiratory infections and controlling emerging infections. In addition, studies on enteric and respiratory diseases have been designed based on laboratory and field-based activities. The multi-directional works also include Clinical Trial/Vaccine trial and to carry on research on diagnostics.

The Senior Research Officer will report to the Principal Investigator and will be responsible for performing laboratory tests; Managing data; Implementing project activities and Quality assurance with the objective of supporting the research studies within the guidelines of project-specific research procedures and organizational values and guidelines. She/he will be also involved in –

Plan and organize as per study need:

  • Identify and enrol study participants following the sampling framework of the study protocol;
  • Perform laboratory tests and experiments following the protocol of the affiliated research project;
  • Process biological samples; Isolate and identify pathogens from different biological sources; Analyze Data etc;
  • Perform molecular detection and identification of pathogens by Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT), ELISA, PCR (both conventional and Real-Time), carry out techniques for measuring adaptive and cellular immune responses;
  • Co-ordinate with the Bio-engineering department for preventive and on-demand maintenance of equipment to ensure the laboratory equipment is in optimum functionality round the clock;
  • Prepare final report for submission to supervisor; Revise final report based on feedback received from supervisor;
  • Manage staff and guide/coach team members in the scientific arena (scientific writing, scientific capacity building) to develop good researchers;
  • Perform data collection following multiple quantitative data collection techniques within the given timeline
  • Check for credibility and trustworthiness of collected data to ensure the quality of data;
  • Keep records on a daily basis and update the progress of the study on a regular basis to the supervisor in order to fulfil the study objectives;
  • Capable of corresponding with the Sponsor (lab-related issues, equipment purchase, shipment   of biological samples etc.);
  • Prepare draft report /progress report on research work and also work with PI in writing scientific reports and manuscripts as per her/his instruction.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Masters in Biological Science with good academic records.
  • At least 6 years of relevant experience
