These positive effects will only be felt if sport is in the right hands, in the hands of those who place the welfare of all children first and adopt practices that support, protect, and empower them.The Senior Safeguarding and Player Welfare Manager role is key to ensure that children and adults at risk have a positive experience in Welsh football through effective safeguarding policies and practices and well as overseeing the welfare of our elite players.KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY OR RESPONSIBILITY

  • Develop and manage the implementation of the FAW Safeguarding Strategy in accordance with key performance indicators.
  • Manage regular reviews of FAW and partner operations to ensure they are compliant with relevant legislation, statutory guidance, industry rules/regulations and FAW policies and procedures.
  • Develop organisational awareness of safeguarding via training and development programmes.
  • Support safer recruitment & disciplinary processes relating to children or adults at risk to ensure operations are compliant and defensible, including leading/supporting investigations int allegations and concerns as required.
  • Attend ‘multi-disciplinary meetings’ and participate in/lead working groups, as required.
  • Develop and enhance safeguarding training and education within FAW Coach Education Programme.
  • Development and updating of policies, practices and procedures.
  • Embed a safeguarding culture within the FAW and Welsh football whereby safeguarding is recognised as a shared responsibility.
  • Develop and manage Safeguarding campaigns within grassroots football including supporting behaviour change and a child-centred culture across community football in Wales.
  • Lead on consultation with key stakeholders, including ensuring the voice of the child is heard across the FAW, to drive safeguarding vision forward, including the preparation and submission of evidence based audits.
  • Manage accurate safeguarding & wellbeing record keeping processes at the FAW including cleansing data in line with Data Protection regulations;
  • Oversee Case Management processes and investigations within the FAW, including referrals to external agencies as required.
  • Provide advice and guidance to stakeholders on safeguarding concerns and cases.
  • Provide strategic advice and challenge to the Senior Management Team, FAW Board and Council.
  • Horizon scan and keep abreast of key developments within safeguarding across all sectors and ensure updates and changes are made as a result.
  • Line manage FAW’s Safeguarding, Player Welfare, & Education Team.
  • Develop and oversee Safeguarding audits of clubs, leagues & area associations to ensure compliance with FAW Policies, Practices & Procedures and UK & Welsh legislation.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONQualificationsEducated to Degree level or equivalent, or equivalent work experience.
Knowledge/ExperienceExperience in front-line safeguarding, in either sport, social work, education, policing or medical.
Expert knowledge of the safeguarding legislation and safe working practices, including the responsibilities of sports organisations and associated agencies including awareness of Wales-specific legislation.
Knowledge of local and national agencies that provide support for children and adults at risk;
Experience of applying quality assurance processes
Experience of leading investigations into allegations of abuse and/or misconduct
Experience of handling large amounts of sensitive data and upholding the principles of confidentiality
Proven work experience as a team leader;
Experience of advising colleagues on applying safeguarding principles to wider business functions
Knowledge of recognising and defining poor practise and abuse including thresholds of abuse.
Skills and BehavioursResilient under pressure, excellent organisation skills and an ability to prioritise effectively
Excellent IT and record keeping skills
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to establish collaborative relationships
Excellent influencing skills and the ability to create change.
DesirableKnowledge of Safeguarding and Welfare issues that exist within football;
Knowledge of HR policies and practices;
Knowledge of the FAW’s governance and structure;
Experience of working in a football environment;
Experience of managing a statutory or similar safeguarding and wellbeing service;
Experience of providing advocacy support to children or adults at risk;
Experience of conflict managementROLE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
The ability to work outside of normal working hours.
The ability to speak Welsh would be advantageous.
The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and two professional / personal references, to the satisfaction of the FAW. In addition, the FAW will ask to see evidence of right to work in the UK.FAW VALUES
