To provide medical pediatric care to neonates and children in emergency room (ER), Neonatology, inpatient department (IPD), inpatient therapeutic feeding centre (ITFC) and maternity when needed. The work is to be performed according to MSF protocols, values, internal regulations, while respecting universal hygiene standards to improve the new-born and child/beneficiaries’ health conditions.
Accountabilities:
- Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and treat emergency medical conditions, including trauma, resuscitation, and mass casualty incidents and to prevent further illness.
- Ensure a proper assessment and full examination of the patient and implement a treatment plan. Consult with surgeon, anaesthetist, and other colleagues as needed.
- Providing care to the patient at the earliest stages of the patient journey – available and able to commence paediatric care in the ER and Maternity directly prior to admission to IPD.
- Ensure proper, accurate and full documentation in the patient’s chart, take a full history, record the full examination and any investigations done.
- Ensure complete handover for any case to the doctor of the next shift before leaving the hospital.
- Provide Emergency care in the respiratory area if there is clinical need, including CPAP treatment.
- Be able to independently provide medical assessment and correct treatment of patients without supervision.
- Ensure compliance with medical ethics.
- Maintain good communication and collaboration with other departments within and outside the hospital, including the referral system.
- Using a clear and structured approach to patients and staff. Practicing organised verbal and written communication as per the departmental system and based on MSF protocols.
- Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow. Ensure that they have understood. Ensure confidentiality is respected and a respectful and dignified attitude is shown to the patients and their families in all circumstances.
- Practicing responsible and rational use of drugs, safe paediatric prescribing including of IV drugs and infusions as per the departmental system and MSF protocols.
- Participate in the collection of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager about any problem or complication of the patient’s illness and medical errors.
- Know and ensure all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented.
- Practicing good infection prevention control practices adhering fully to MSF infection prevention control (IPC) rules and principles.
- Participate in mortality and morbidity reviews.
- Perform any other task within the scope of this role as directed by the supervisor according to the needs of the mission.
- Attending training as required in order to optimize the quality of care.
- Expectation that senior paediatricians will operate with a high standard of assessment and senior decision making, making safe and comprehensive plans in line with the MSF guideline and asking the Ex-Pat paediatrician for support for cases outside of the guideline.
MSFCH Specific Contextual Accountabilities:
- Will support junior pediatricians in ER, especially in complicated cases and in cases needing referral ot tertiary hospitals.
- Will participate to the training of junior doctors and paramedical team, in collaboration with expat paediatrician.
- Participate in the coaching and capacity building of pediatricians and nurses from public hospitals during the collaboration between Nablus hospital and these hospitals.
- Accept and apply MSF principles, values and internal regulations. Apply MSF protocols and adhere to the rules implemented by MSF within Nablus hospital.
- Respect and ensure that Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measure implemented at Nablus Hospital are followed.
Specific requirements for the role:
- Education: Medical Doctor, Arab Board Specialty of Paediatrics in related specialization from a recognized university.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of practical experience in Paediatrics and paediatric emergency qualification mandatory.
- Desirable: 2 years of previous experience with MSF or other International NGO’s.
- Languages: Desirable English; Fluency in Arabic.
For applicants with foreign certificates, Iraqi recognised state-diploma is required.
For applicants registered under DOH Ninewa, a non-objection letter should be provided only if the staff is selected.
