OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
Unitaid, a partnership hosted by the World Health Organization is focused on accelerating the introduction and adoption of key health products primarily for HIV & co-infections, tuberculosis, malaria and women & children’s health. It creates systemic conditions for sustainable and equitable access and aims to foster inclusive and demand-driven partnerships for innovation. It designs and invests in innovative approaches to make quality health products available and affordable in low- and middle-income countries. It promotes collective efforts with partners, countries and communities, unlocking access to the tools, services and care that can deliver the best results, improve health and address global health priorities.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Contribute strategic input to implement, monitor, and evaluate Unitaid’s Strategy. Provide thought leadership for strategy implementation, particularly as related to investments in tuberculosis (TB), medicines development, and children’s health.
- Design and oversee efforts to draft, update, publish, and utilize Unitaid’s landscape analyses for medicines, diagnostics, and preventive health products used in TB and other areas, including: A. Conducting background research on key elements of the landscape, compiling relevant data, and conducting additional analyses, as needed; B. Identifying, coordinating, and supervising consultants to deliver components of the landscapes, including development of terms of reference and oversight of selection processes; C. Engaging experts and stakeholders to peer-review and vet landscape analyses; and D. Providing crucial contribution to articles, reports, and other resources related to Unitaid’s core work.
- Identify potential areas for intervention where Unitaid could enable the global community to achieve higher impact of investments in global health, by accelerating introduction of new health products and approaches; creating systemic conditions for sustainable, equitable access; and fostering inclusive and demand-driven partnerships for innovation.
- Provide technical guidance and content leadership for Unitaid’s calls for proposals, including A. Designing calls for proposals; B. Assessing proposals for technical merit and strategic fit with Unitaid’s strategy and business model; C. Providing strategic guidance and technical expertise as part of the project team during grant development; D. Reviewing and revising proposal tools as needed for effectiveness, efficiency, and strategic alignment.
- Provide strategic guidance and technical expertise as part of the cross-functional project team during grant implementation.
- Draft and deliver reports, presentations, briefing notes, and other materials for Unitaid’s Executive Board, Policy and Strategy Committee, and Joint Review Committee.
- Disseminate reports, lessons learned, and new analytic methods via satellites/symposia at International Conferences, reports and web-based materials (in collaboration with Unitaid’s Communications Team), and peer-reviewed publications. Support broader organizational communications and resource mobilization efforts in relevant content areas.
- Leverage strong, established networks of experts and other global health stakeholders working in health product access in TB, medicines development, and children’s health, and related areas.
- Support Strategy team integration and key deliverables, such as investment planning; perform any other activities required by Unitaid Senior Management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential:
- Advanced level university degree in business/management, economics, or public health.
Desirable:
- Studies in a discipline related to healthcare product access (medicine, pharmacy, product development, product design, etc.).
Experience
Essential:
- At least 10 years of experience in health strategies with a focus on healthcare tools (therapeutics, diagnostics, preventive tools); At least 3 years of experience in designing strategic, market-based projects to improve access to healthcare tools in resource-limited settings.
- Experience working on product access for resource-limited settings in low- or lower-middle-income countries.
- Experience of working with a strong, established network of global health partners working on end-to-end healthcare product access for TB.
- Experience in interaction/coordination with a range of audiences, such as Executive Board, Senior Management, technical partners, funding partners, communities and civil society, with demonstrated experience in production and presentation of documents for such a range of audiences.
Use of Language Skills
Essential:
- Expert knowledge of English.
Desirable:
- Intermediate knowledge of French.
