Job Profile Summary

The purpose of the job is to perform advanced skilled journey level work combining activities in various mechanical and building trade areas; installation, operation, maintenance, equipment and fixtures, service and repair of electrical, refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilating, and plumbing systems. Employees in this classification apply considerate skill to perform trades tasks in a minimum of one (1) or more of the standard trade disciplines, e.g., painting, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, pump-mechanical. Must also have strong experience as a locksmith. Performs related work as directed.
This position allows eligible veterans and their spouses to claim Veterans’ Preference pursuant to Florida Statute 295. Certain servicemembers may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements, in the employment by the state and its political subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled.

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.  

Minimum Experience/Training:

Three or more years of experience in recognized trade.

Minimum Certification/Licenses:

Desirable certifications/licenses include Tree trimmer I certification, Fork lift certification, Man lift certification, CDL Class D, EPA Freon certificate, certification from an accredited technical school.

Valid Florida Driver’s License required or, as a condition of continued employment, a Valid Florida Driver’s License within 30 days after beginning employed by the College.

Essential Functions:

  • Daily – 15%: Performs complex and specialized tasks in the construction, renovation, modification, installation and repair of buildings, equipment, apparatus and facilities.
  • Daily – 15%: Performs duties according to the acquired skills and knowledge in the trade disciplines, e.g., painting, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, pump-mechanical and locksmith.
  • Daily – 10%: May perform basic plumbing work in repairing values and fixtures; replaces old lines and broken fixtures.
  • Daily – 10%: May perform basic carpentry work, e.g., building shelving, paneling and framework.
  • Daily – 10%: May perform routine electrical repairs to buildings, boxes and switches; replaces ballasts, wiring and fixtures.
  • Daily – 5%: May perform basic tile work, plastering, cement, masonry and block work.
  • Daily – 5%: Picks up and delivers materials to job sites; unloads delivery trucks; operates forklifts and other equipment.
  • Daily – 10%: Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; performs routine duties involving the repair and maintenance of tools, equipment and accessories.
  • Daily – 10%: Ensures proper maintenance on manual and electronic locking systems, keys and associated security access systems.
  • Daily – 5%:  Assists in the scheduling and setup of various events as applicable to assigned campus.
  • Other – 5%: Performs related duties as assigned.

    Ability to recognize needs of unit and own responsibility.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff within grounds and maintenance.
  • Proficient skills in one or more trades.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle is required for some positions.
