Salary: $5,501.00 – $7,400.00 Monthly

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and provides input to landscape-level risk assessments with internal and external experts and stakeholders and briefs region management regarding high-hazard Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) areas within the Southeast Region.
  • Works with other agency programs and partners, evaluates, prioritizes, and coordinates cross-boundary work and collaboration.
  • Responsible for project management and assisting in the direction of the Region’s Service Forestry landowner cost-share program in assigned work areas.
  • Oversees contract administration rolls for fuels management contracts. Drafts Requests for Qualifications and Quotations (RFQQs) and contracts. Acts as Solicitation Coordinator for RFQQs and Contract Manager for contracts.
  • Manages and coordinates cross-agency meetings with strategic partners concerning agency fuels programs.
  • Participation and implementation of public meetings with internal and external partners and stakeholders, whose professional knowledge and expertise support sound decision-making and collaboration for landscape-scale fuels reduction and forest health work.
  • Actively engages with partner groups to prioritize and plan fuels mitigation projects.
  • Serves as the region expert for the external stakeholder cost-share reimbursement program.
  • Consult with the public and external and internal partners regarding complex inquiries regarding our Region-wide cost-share program.
  • Seeks opportunities to fund cost-share programs through grants, capital budget requests, or other opportunities.
  • Plans, leads, organizes, oversees, and reviews all work performed by forest resilience staff in their assigned work area of the Forest Resilience District.
  • Sets performance expectations for staff, and provides follow-up coaching, feedback, and corrective action as necessary. Supports teamwork and monitors the well-being of staff.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of professional forest management techniques to address forest health issues.
  • Knowledge of forest health condition class, other landscape departure metrics, and related forest management treatment options and other forest resilience strategies.
  • Knowledge and experience with state forest practices rules and related regulations.
  • Basic skills and knowledge in the use of a personal computer and forestry instrument measuring tools.
  • Experience with GIS, including ArcMap, Survey123, Collector, and other mapping tools to document work and convey information to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with reading maps and interpreting information on aerial photos.
  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, resource management, or natural resources-related field AND 3 years of natural resource field experience.
    OR equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external partners/community partners in a team setting.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills and the ability to develop or use systems to track several complex projects’ implementation and accomplishments.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of professional forest management techniques to address forest health issues.
