Responsibilities

The SILC Assistant supports the implementation of Savings and Internal Lending Communities (SILC) and delivers basic financial and business literacy activities to project participants. S/he facilitates SILC group meetings, provides follow-up support to families, and promotes improved household financial awareness and small business practices.

S/he ensures SILC activities are implemented in line with project standards, identifies challenges, and works closely with the program team to ensure quality and continuity of services, demonstrating professionalism and commitment to serving communities.

S/he performs all responsibilities in close coordination with the Livelihoods program Manager, with integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to serving the YEP community. 

 

Job Duties: 

SILC Support and Facilitation

  • Support the formation and strengthening of SILC groups.
  • Facilitate and/or support regular (periodical) SILC group meetings.
  • Assist SILC groups in record keeping, savings, lending, and repayment processes.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring and follow-up to SILC group members to ensure proper implementation of SILC principles.
  • Support conflict resolution and group cohesion within SILC groups.

Financial Literacy and Business Literacy

  • Deliver basic financial literacy training to SILC members and families, focusing on:
    • Saving and budgeting
    • Household financial planning
    • Responsible borrowing and debt management
  • Support families to increase financial awareness and improve money management practices.
  • Facilitate basic business literacy sessions for small entrepreneurs, including:
    • Simple business planning
    • Costing and pricing
    • Record keeping and cash flow management

Community Engagement and Reporting

  • Conduct regular follow-up visits to SILC groups and households.
  • Support data collection, attendance tracking, and basic reporting on SILC activities.
  • Coordinate with project staff and community leaders to ensure smooth implementation.

EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • Experience working with SILC, VSLA, or community savings groups is an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of financial and business literacy concepts.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills, especially with low-literacy participants.
  • Ability to work closely with families and community groups.
  • Minimum 2 years working with international NGO in a logistics capacity.

                

Education / Experience Needed

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance, economics, community development, or a related field (or relevant experience).
  • Minimum 2 years working with international NGO in a logistics capacity

 

LANGUAGE 

  • Fluency in Kurdish and Arabic is required.
  • Proficiency in English is desired.
