Overview of position

Working under the overall supervision of the Head of Office (HSO) & the direct supervision of the CCCM Officer (CO) the selected candidate will work within selected camps & camp like settings as well as in hosting communities, informal sites & areas of return supervising CCCM mobile teams as they discharge standard CCCM tasks, such as coordination, the development of community & site governance structures & feedback mechanisms, protection support & the supervision & implementation of minimal site maintenance projects.

Role objectives

For the purpose of this role is to assist in the day to day implementation of the Camp Coordination & Camp Management (CCCM) program, with a focus on community engagement activities aimed at improving participation & self governance of the IDPs, returnees & host community population, specifically the selected candidate will be responsible for the below tasks:

  • Assist in the assessment of information needs among the camp population, returnees & host communities.
  • Conduct awareness raising & community, CFM, health referral mechanism & other health related topics (with available leaflets, information campaign / drive or audio key messaging).
  • Support complaints ffeedback mechanism to ensure accountability to affected population.
  • Assist in inter agency referral process for IDPs, host communities & returnee as well as carrying out follow ups & providing feedback on referred cases to the responsible agency & affected populations.
  • Assess existing formal & informal community structures & create linkages with the community committee members.
  • Assist in designing, preparing & disseminating IEC (Information, Education & Communication) materials.
  • Identify & provide accessible community opportunities that match the specific needs & preferences of persons with disability.
  • Work directly with individuals with disabilities to assist in identifying needs & linking them to available services.
  • Organize & conduct community meetings, focus group discussions & other participatory activities.
  • Ensuring under represented groups, such as women, elders, youth, PWD etc. & that they target beneficiaries most in need of protection & assistance.
  • Ensure accurate & timely dissemination of information to IDPs, host communities & returnees regarding services, rights & responsibilities.
  • Monitor the implementation of community engagement activities & report on progress, challenges & outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records & documentation.
  • Ensure that all community engagement activities are conducted in a manner that respects the rights & dignity of all camp residents, host communities & returnees with particular attention to vulnerable groups.
  • Provide weekly, monthly, situational & annual reports to the management detailing progress of community engagement activities.
  • This encompasses achievement of project outputs, objectives & the challenges faced.
  • Act as a liaison between affected populations, service providers & camp management teams.
  • Foster positive relationships & facilitate effective communication.
  • Discharge any other relevant duty as assigned by the Displacement Management Officer.

Project reporting

  • This role will be working under the overall supervision of the Head of Office (HSO) & the direct supervision of the CCCM Officer (CO).

Key competencies

  • Certificate in social science or behavioural sciences degree or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in community engagement activities, community organizing or any humanitarian related work in Adamawa state.
  • Previous experience in health related work in Adamawa state is an added advantage.
  • Fluency in English & languages spoken in Adamawa state (Hausa, Maiha, Fulfulfi, Nzanyi, Higgi & Bachama).
  • Takes responsibility for action & manages constructive criticisms.

  • Promotes continuous learning for self & others.
  • Listens & communicates clearly, adapting delivery to the audience.

Team management

  • This role has no team management responsibility.

  • Internals of the organization & NMS candidates, as well as external female candidates, will be considered as first tier candidates.
  • This vacancy is also open to second tier candidates.
  • The appointment is subject to funding confirmation.
  • Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, accreditation, any residency or visa requirements & security clearances.
  • Preferably the candidates are locals from Adamawa state (LGAs from Hong, Mubi North, Mubi South, Tsukumu / Tilljo Mitchika, Moda / Dlaka Mitchika, Song, Lamurde, Maiha, Gombi & familiarity of the context is also an advantage.
