Weyerhaeuser Company is hiring a mid-career professional as a Slope Stability Geologist to support forestry applications and research in our Western Timberlands Region. As the Slope Stability Geologist, you will be part of Weyerhaeuser’s Strategy and Technology Team, who provide industry-leading environmental support and applied research to ensure our working forests last forever. This role is highly collaborative and provides geomorphic and geotechnical support to forest operations for road and timber-harvest planning and permitting, landslide investigations, slope and road mitigation and remediation projects, and site monitoring. You will also participate in research and collaborate with internal and external scientists on various environmental policy issues. As the Slope Stability Geologist, you will:
- Serve as a member of Strategy and Technology, a team of scientists and support staff who advance and apply science in environmental stewardship and intensive forest management to sustainably increase productivity and product quality
- Function as the primary geology contact for assigned operating areas and provide support to Timberlands Operations to ensure compliance with forest practice laws, conservation agreements, and company policies.
- Manage projects through direct field and office reviews and provide input into plans for harvesting, road-building, and other forest operations
- Leverage knowledge and experience with landslides and slope stability to contribute innovative solutions to manage risk and create opportunities, including collaborative research with universities and other scientific organizations
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree (or higher) in Geology, Geomorphology, Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering or related field
- Registered as a Geologist or Engineering Geologist and capable of obtaining your license in the state of Oregon within 1 year of hire
- Knowledge and experience with landslides and slope stability
- Strong written and oral communication skills, experience with Microsoft Office and GIS, and ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work safely under adverse conditions, in inclement weather, and traverse steep, heavily forested terrain including ability to navigate safely on logging roads
- Enthusiastic, highly motivated, detail oriented and eager to take on responsibilities
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and participate in long field days at remote locations
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
What We Offer
Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $104,310 – $156,464 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 15% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement: Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your base salary.
Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours
