Duties and Responsibilities
The Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD) is part of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) of the United Nations Secretariat. The Division promotes socially inclusive development, particularly in the areas of poverty eradication, productive employment and decent work and the social inclusion of older persons, youth, family, persons with disabilities and Indigenous Peoples. DISD activities include: i) research, analysis and policy guidance on social development issues; ii) support to intergovernmental processes and mechanisms relating to social development; and iii) provision of technical cooperation and capacity development.

This internship is located in the Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD), Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). The Intern reports to the Focal Point on the Family, DISD.

The intern will contribute to research and the organization of events relating to the topics of family policy, families and climate change and other topics relating to the preparations for and observance of the 30th anniversary of the International Year of the Family (IYF+30).

The intern’s tasks will include assistance with the organization of:
-Side events at the 62nd session of the Commission for Social Development;
-The High-level panel on IYF+30,
-The International Day of Families, 15 May;
-An Expert Group Meeting to be conducted in May 2024.

The intern will also assist with preparation of materials to be posted on the website.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work.

Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
