UNICEF Syria was established in 1970 and has been working with partners to help empower children to fully claim and enjoy their rights under the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

UNICEF works with partners across Syria to deliver supplies, services, and expertise in areas of Child Protection, Education, Health, Nutrition, Water, Hygiene and Sanitation for every child. UNICEF also provides humanitarian assistance when needed.

Syria continues to face one of the most complex emergencies in the world. Unprecedented humanitarian needs are compounded by displacement inside the country and across its borders, extensive destruction of civilian and social services infrastructure, devastating impacts on the economy, and most importantly, the breakdown of the social fabric that stitched the country together for decades.

Today, 90% of people in Syria live in poverty, most are unable to make ends meet or bring food to the table. Families have had their resources depleted, with limited employment opportunities, skyrocketing prices, and shortage of basic supplies. For most people, the current socio-economic challenges represent some of the harshest and most challenging circumstances they have faced since the beginning of the crisis in 2011.

How can you make a difference?

In response to the ongoing needs of communities in Tartous, Lattakia, and Idlib, the position of Social & Behavior Change Officer is crucial to implementing Social and Behavioral Change (SBC) programming. This role is essential for engaging communities in various initiatives related to routine immunization, hygiene promotion, back-to-learning efforts, nutrition and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices, and Child Protection (CP). The Social & Behavior Change Officer will work closely with community members to address challenges and promote positive behaviors in these areas, fostering resilience and improving overall well-being.

Under the supervision of the Chief Field Office Tartous, the Social & Behavior Change Officer NOA provides professional technical, operational and administrative assistance to the supervisor and internal colleagues, through the application of theoretical and practical technical skills in researching, collecting, analyzing and presenting programme information while learning organizational rules, regulations and procedures to support the development, implementation and monitoring of the social& behavior change output results of the Country Programme.

  2. Support to the implementation of S&BC activities
  3. Advocacy, networking and partnership building
  4. Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

The following minimum requirements:

  • Education: A university degree in one of the following fields is required: social and behavioral science, sociology, anthropology, psychology, education, communication, public relations, management, or another relevant technical field.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of one year of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required:  social development programme planning, communication for development, public advocacy or another related area.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic.

The following desirables:

  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
