As Social & Digital Media Manager in the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience you will lead the strategy and content creation for the faculty’s social and digital media channels – the faculty website, intranet, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

You will be integral to our goal of delivering more engaging content, increasing understanding of IoPPN and King’s strategic vision and improving the user experience across our external website, intranet and social media channels.

Working with colleagues in the IoPPN Press & Communications team, across the faculty and the King’s Corporate Communications Team, you will develop strategic campaigns in support of the faculty and university’s objectives and vision that successfully engage and connect with our online communities. You will advise on and employ best practice, respond quickly to the latest trends and analyse data and reports to ensure the channels are successfully optimised.  The role will lead on developing and empowering IoPPN content editors to create high quality content reflecting a world leading education and research institute.

The ability to develop and manage positive relationships with a number of stakeholders across multiple areas of the IoPPN and King’s will be key to your success, as well a commitment to high standards and positive outcomes for our community and the university.

As a champion of best practice in social and digital communications, you will bring to the role a developed knowledge of content accessibility, usability and writing for the web and social media.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management of social and digital content quality, reporting to the IoPPN Head of Communications.
  • Manage the faculty’s social media accounts. Manage the faculty’s internal and external web presence, writing copy, creating and editing pages.
  • Work collaboratively to drive an ongoing programme of work to ensure the IoPPN’s web content is meeting accessibility and content standards, implementing processes to ensure content is regularly reviewed, maintained and archived.
  • Support the activities of the IoPPN Press & Communications team, and the wider IoPPN, through the development of a range of digital content, ensuring compliance with university house style and branding guidelines.
  • Identify opportunities to showcase the IoPPN’s research and educational offer, working with a range of colleagues to create content and maximise engagement.
  • Report on existing activity and work with colleagues to develop a better understanding of the faculty’s audiences, so as to recommend new content that extends and deepens our relationship with key stakeholders.
  • Maintain an awareness of current trends in social media, digital platforms, user generated content and e-communications to assess new opportunities that may be of value to the faculty, as well as proactively engaging in their adoption where appropriate.
  • Produce and embed guidance and best practice to equip the content editors to create high quality content and manage training and networking opportunities to help boost organisational knowledge of content optimisation
  • Be a point of contact for stakeholders who need help and guidance about managing their web content
  • Work in partnership with colleagues on key initiatives, including planning, coordinating and executing web content to support strategic messages and information and maintain key pages
  • Responsible for SEO and producing regular and timely metrics reports, carrying out social media audience analysis suggesting and making insight and data-driven decisions.
  • Manage content editor applications, making decisions on access and the most appropriate levels of access
  • Contribute to the implementation of King’s Strategic Vision 2029;
  • Be a digital champion for the faculty, offering guidance and technical support to colleagues to help support the Professional Services Team’s commitment to continuous service improvement and development.

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

1.       Substantial experience of web and social media management across a range of platforms (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram), including content planning and creation, and a strong understanding of how people engage with content on different channels and platforms, using best practice

2.       Ability to translate complex messages into accessible and engaging written and digital content for online audiences including video and audio

3.       Significant experience of content management systems, video and photographic equipment, editing software, content quality management and analytics tools

4.       Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage own workload and prioritise tasks in a busy environment

5.       A collaborative attitude to work with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and experience of building effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels

6.       A proactive approach to work, knowing when to work independently and flexibly but also when best to work as part of a team. Enthusiastic self-starter with a positive and determined approach.

7.       Understanding and commitment to culture, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Desirable criteria

1.       Knowledge and understanding of the higher education sector and its challenges

2.       Understanding and interest in mental health and neuroscience

Interviews will take place Wednesday 14 February and will comprise an interview with a panel and a written test.
