Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements. This position is located in Office of the Executive Director. The Social Media Consultant will report to the First Reporting Officer and the Second Reporting Officer. This role involves implementing the UN-Habitat social media strategy to increase visibility and engagement of the digital accounts that carry messaging for the office of the Executive Director. Within delegated authority, the Consultant will be responsible for the following duties: Implements global communication strategies and campaigns on social media platforms to engage with local audiences on UN-Habitat priority issues and/or major events relating to the Office of the Executive Director. Provides specialized assistance in managing the Executive Director’s and Deputy Executive Director’s social media activities in alignment with the Organization’s strategic communications priorities and branding guidelines including, but not limited to, the development of online content and campaigns delivered across various platforms. Updating the ED and DEDs social media platforms regularly with, among others, platform-specific content including text, images, videos and graphics. Researches a broad scope of information sources, printed and electronic; compile and present information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services for external audiences on social media platforms. Organize and execute social media-related campaigns and events, coordinating with diverse partners. Collects and produces content for social media platforms, including in local languages and various formats (e.g. infographic, video, etc.), including proposing topics, undertaking research, writing drafts, production of content (such as graphic design), obtaining clearances, editing copy, and coordinating design approval, translation procedures and distribution. Key contributor in the planning and implementation of communication campaigns on social media platforms by selecting appropriate and relevant excerpts of speeches and statements and coordinating the translation/adaptation of materials from other sources. Manages the development and updating of internal databases; updates content on social media platforms; generates a variety of standard and non-standard statistical and other reports from various databases. Develop and maintain collaboration with the other high-level social media channels of existing and new partners, allies, and stakeholders. In charge of scheduling posts as part of an established workflow using the scheduling tools available to maximize reach and impact according to specific algorithms of each social media platform. Acts as focal point on social media matters, monitoring and reporting on the latest trends and developments, responding to queries, and participating in the monitoring and evaluation on the engagement of the UN-Habitat Executive Director’s presence on social media. Track and analyze ED and DEDs reputation on social media, public opinion and other external developments using traditional and social media, to help assess news value, and potential impact and help determine appropriate responses as needed. Acts as the focal point for the coordination and production of OED statement videos, this will include liaising with relevant offices to prepare scripts, editing scripts to ensure a smooth flow during recording, and tracking the production of videos to ensure timely delivery and dispatch Provides specialized communication support to the chief of communications, especially social media support, as needed. Tracks updates, needs and availability of technology needs and maintenance of equipment, software and systems. Carry out tasks and responsibilities as deemed necessary by the supervisors, adapting to various assignments with flexibility and diligence.
Qualifications/special skills
A first-level university degree in Communication, Journalism or International Relations or a related field is required. 2 years of experience in communications and social media marketing required. Expertise in creating content for major social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Tik-Tok, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.) desirable. Strong experience in creating visual (photo and video) assets for use on social media channels is desirable. Knowledge and experience in using social media monitoring, analytics, and scheduling tools is desirable.
