The Office of Communication Services at Duke University seeks a skilled social media managerto join its award-winning team. The ideal candidate is a resourceful and collaborative team player who will focus on both internal employee engagement and external recruitment initiatives. The successful candidate possesses exceptional abilities in building and executing an effective strategy and authentic narrative on emerging and existing social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X. They are adept at contemporary marketing strategies and data analytics to foster Duke’s employer brand and drive growth on social media channels among staff and faculty. The social media manager’s work will help colleagues connect with Duke’s shared values, and it will showcase the value of working at Duke, which is recognized among the nation’s top employers. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with other editorial team members and partner with Duke Human Resources and other departments to accomplish shared objectives and support communication strategies and plans.

Key Skills and Work Responsibilities:

  • Social Media Management: Proficient at effectively managing multiple social media channels to optimize reach, engagement, and follower growth, while maintaining the university’s social media guidelines and brand standards.
  • Strategy Development: Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy plan aligned with departmental goals to achieve long-term success.
  • Exceptional Writing Skills: Proven ability to expertly craft engaging copy and other content for effective micro-storytelling.
  • Data Analytics and Insights: Regularly utilize data analytics and other solutions, including AI-driven technology and social listening, to track, analyze, and draw insights from social media metrics to make informed recommendations to optimize ROI.
  • Editorial Content Integration: Cohesively and routinely package, frame, and amplify the editorial team’s content for engagement across social media channels to grow channels, build community and attract top talent to Duke.
  • Content Creation and Curation: Proficiency in creative visual storytelling techniques, including graphic design, to enhance engagement and convey Duke’s values, culture, and career opportunities effectively.
  • Community Engagement: Foster a sense of community among employees and external stakeholders through strategic social media initiatives to build brand loyalty.
  • Collaboration and Consultation: Collaborate with various departments and units within Central Administration to advise, train, consult, and coordinate on effective use of social media platforms, strategies, and resources to enhance overall communication effectiveness and align efforts with goals and objectives. Additionally, provide guidance to department officials and assist with crisis communications.
  • Excellence and Growth Mindset: Thrives in collaborative environments and excels in independent work, embracing challenges with enthusiasm, maintaining a commitment to precision, accuracy, and high standards, and seeks opportunities for growth.
  • Assess Changing Trends: Stays current on emerging trends, tools, and best practices in social media marketing and employee communications to ensure continuous improvement and relevance in the digital landscape.
  • Experience:

    • Work requires a minimum of four years direct experience managing social media and using data and insights to optimize content and strategies in a sophisticated and complex organization.
    • Track record of creating engaging copy and content through strategic use of social media that leads to a measurable impact.
    • Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing social media strategies to achieve goals, such as increasing brand awareness, driving website traffic, and boosting engagement metrics.
    • Proficient in Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, Hootsuite, and other applications necessary to create engaging content and conduct audience research and recommendations.

    Required Qualifications:

    Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree program.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    Work requires communication, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree program preferable in Human Resource Management or a related field.

    Experience

    Work requires three years of experience in a business/professional role OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE. Employee benefits/HR practical experience preferred. Must be proficient in computer software and the latest electronic technology.
