Global Evergreening Alliance (GEA) is a membership-based organisation that develops long-term solutions to restore degraded lands and improve livelihoods on a globally significant scale. We bring together some of the world’s most capable development and environmental NGOs, research, and scientific organisations to support and facilitate massive-scale environmental restoration and sustainable agriculture projects. Together we build on our shared vision of resilient landscapes and agricultural systems, a safe climate and better livelihoods for rural communities. We are currently implementing Africa’s largest ever community-led land restoration project: Restore Africa.
The Position
The Communication Officer – Social Media role will be responsible for maintaining and developing social media accounts of the Global EverGreening Alliance and proactively promote its work through various channels.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop compelling and clearly written (including excellent grammar and attention to detail) copy for various mediums, ensuring all content aligns with the brand’s voice, tone and messaging.
- Plan and create a variety of content within a dynamic team environment.
- Identify content ideas across all platforms.
- Manage and update all social media accounts.
- Monitor social media analytics to track the performance of campaigns and content to provide regular reports.
- Schedule social media posts and monitor engagement metrics to optimise posting times.
- Appropriately respond to comments, messages, and mentions in a timely and professional manner.
- Reviewing news, media releases and relevant websites to source content and identify upcoming events and opportunities.
- Contribute to and support the planning of social media campaigns.
- Review the websites and social media and engage with communications and technical focal points of internal staff, members and partner organisations to source material and content.
- Facilitate, take notes and prepare reports regarding meetings and teleconferences.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the communications strategy, policies, procedures, registers and records.
- Draft communication documents, articles, newsletters, and content for the organisation’s website, including blogs, reviews and project reports.
Key Selection Criteria
- At least 3 years’ experience in a social media or Media & Communications role.
- A demonstrated understanding of social media platforms and best practice.
- Experience in content creation and applications such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite applications.
- Demonstrated experience in designing quality graphics.
- Strong writing and editing skills, including long and short-form content.
- Excellent grammar, tone and general attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, confidence liaising with internal and external colleagues, including stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
- Well-developed time management skills and an ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Good problem-solving skills and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- A great team player with a demonstrated ‘can do’ attitude.
Other relevant skills, knowledge and experience
- Training and/or experience in media and communications, marketing, and/or journalism.
- Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) experience would be considered beneficial.
- Previous experience in graphic design and visual communications.
- Demonstrated ability to create high-quality video content and familiarity with video editing software.
- Training and/or experience in environmental conservation, rural development, agriculture, climate change or similar.
