The Social Protection & Jobs Global Practice delivers operational approaches and evidence based solutions to help individuals and families manage risk, cope with chronic/transitional poverty, and access better livelihoods and jobs. The Social Protection and Jobs (SPJ) Global Practice has a large and growing portfolio in West and Central Africa (AFW), which includes long-standing engagements supporting Governments to strengthen social safety net programs as well as promoting innovations around climate-adaptive social protection (ASP), youth employment and jobs as well as human capital investments. The SPJ West and Central Africa unit (HAWS2) covers the 3 Country Management Units (CMUs) of West Africa.  

The Social Protection and Job engagement in Togo is structured around four themes: 

1. Togo Social Assistance Transformation for Resilience Program (ASTRE). 

2. West Africa Unique Identification for Regional Integration and Inclusion (WURI). 

3. Analytical Program on Jobs for Togo. 

4. Human Capital Review (HCR) for Togo. 

 

As Social Protection Analyst you support the World Bank as follows: 

  • Support the day-to-day technical supervision of the World Bank financed ASTRE and WURI programs;
  • Contribute to the World Bank’s technical assistance to the Government of Togo on the development of a multisectoral Jobs Strategy;
  • Participate in supervision missions, including field visits;
  • Support analytical work (prepare data collection and support data analysis, conduct literature reviews, etc.);
  • Etc.

 

Part of the Talent programme “Swiss Youth at the United Nations / World Bank“, this position is sponsored by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). An International UN Youth Volunteer contract ensures that travel, relocation and UN health insurance costs are covered. Additionally, a monthly living allowance is paid. Skills required

For the programme: 

  • Swiss nationality;
  • Master’s degree;
  • Ideally 12 months of relevant professional experience (min. 3 months – max. 24 months);
  • Max. 28 years old at the date of application;
  • Excellent command of English and 2 official Swiss languages (one active = C1/C2, one passive = A2/B1);
  • Proven interest in joining the international cooperation sector.

 

For this position: (Assets are listed in the DoAs ) 

  • Master’s degree in (development) economics, social policy, or a related field;
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience (ideally one year) in poverty reduction strategies and programs, economic development, and/or digital technologies for service delivery in developing countries;
  • Previous (work) experience on topic related to social protection (cash transfer programs, economic and financial inclusion, delivery systems), and/or jobs would be a strong asset;
  • Sound understanding of key principles of project management, including monitoring and evaluation, in a development context;
  • Strong analytical skills, and ability to translate theory into practical applications in a development context:
  • Proven track record of multi-tasking, managing competing demands and effective time management;
  • Ability to work in a team and in an intercultural environment, delivering support and  building relationships with internal and external stakeholders, with minimal supervision;
  • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;
  • Fluent in English and French.

Application deadline: 10 April 2024 

First round of interviews carried out by cinfo: between 29 April and 07 May 2024 

Final selection: will be made by the host organisation based on cinfo’s recommendation and an interview with them. Selected candidates will be informed around mid-June. 

Onboarding and training: The onboarding process will start after the selection. Selected candidates will have to attend mandatory predeparture training in Biel at the beginning of August.  

Entry on duty: Departure is possible after the training, i.e. from around August 8, 2024. The final departure date will be discussed after the selection and depends on several factors.
