About the Organization: Peace of Mind Afghanistan (PoMA) is an organization that provides psychological and mental health support to communities and populations throughout Afghanistan. PoMA is made up of an interdisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers, and researchers who sustainably develop mental health systems, support, programs, and technical assistance. Recognizing the importance of global mental health, PoMA strives to address mental health challenges that have a profound impact on individuals and communities worldwide. PoMA is expanding its programming and is now looking for dedicated team members to join our organization.

About the Role: We are seeking Social Workers with a background in mental health/psychology or social work, to provide mental health and psychosocial support services to identified communities. The social worker will be responsible for providing high quality and needs-based mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) to individuals and groups, reaching as many people as possible across Herat, Daikundi, Khost, and Nangarhar. As such, the clinical practitioner must be based in one of the four target locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate social-emotional learning as part of integrated case management.
  • Conduct sessions for parents and caregivers to support their psychological well-being.
  • Refer identified child protection cases to the PoMA focal point.
  • Support M&E researchers in data collection and ensuring program quality.
  • Connect populations with community resources and assistance.
  • Offer crisis intervention and support during emergencies or times of acute stress.
  • Within target communities, identify vulnerable groups for whom services should be tailored.
  • Provide support to community members and families under supervision of PoMA’s clinical team.
  • Manage the needs and scheduling of your case load, community members, and people with whom you are working, and refer to specialized care when appropriate.
  • Utilize evidence informed practices and ensure safeguarding mechanisms are in place.
  • Travel to attend PoMA workshops and required meetings.

Appliable Criteria & Qualifications:

  • Background in psychology, social work, social sciences or alternative training or education in mental health, social sciences.
  • Minimum two years of experience providing MH/MHPSS services to individuals and groups
  • Minimum two years of experience in community engagement activities
  • Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto, depending on the needs of the community in which you will work
  • Preferably, experience delivering MH/MHPSS in community settings
