Schedule Description
DUTIES
Analyzes, designs, develops, maintains and supports mission-critical and other in-house and third-party software applications; performs programming tasks; provides Internet and Intranet website and web application administration and support. 
 
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyzes, designs, develops and documents new software/systems using process modeling and conceptual data modeling methodologies.  Provides work area and business process analysis to determine information requirements, gaps and proposes solutions.
  • Develops custom applications, custom functionality for 3rd party applications, application interfaces and reports.
  • Provides maintenance, development, documentation and client support for the web.  Creates and uploads regular updates to the institutional website and maintains online forms and institutional style sheets.
  • Participates in implementation of new 3rd party software application systems.  Performs software testing, including security testing to verify that protection mechanisms built into the system will protect it from improper penetration, and takes action to correct any faults.  
  • Develops and delivers training materials, system documentation and technical presentations for the purpose of demonstrating systems and training.  Produces programming and systems documentation for existing systems and new implementations.
  • Provides consultation, advice and assistance to users of the institution’s critical ERP and other software applications.
  • Participates in implementation of business intelligence reporting solutions for data analysis.  Supports standard reporting tools and develops various reports to meet end-user requirements.
  • Ensures the technical integrity, security of mission-critical and confidential data according to the FOIPPA and other legislation, consistency and reliability of the Internet and Intranet websites and web applications by establishing performance measurements and goals, monitoring system performance and usage and taking corrective actions.
  • Provides Internet and Intranet website and web application administration and support.  Provides consultation, advice and assistance on web page development, design and programming to other institutional web-authors.
  • Maintains currency of technical knowledge by reading, self-training and researching on the Internet.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    EDUCATION:

    • Grade 12 plus two year post-secondary Diploma in an Information Technology related area

     
    EXPERIENCE:

    • One year recent and related experience

     
    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB

    • Ability to deal with users, coworkers and external vendors with courtesy, discretion and tact; dealing with difficult situations appropriately
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
    • Ability to plan and organize work
    • Ability to exercise independent action
    • Ability to apply continuous mental effort for long periods of time
    • Demonstrated knowledge of the Systems Development Life Cycle and respective methodologies
    • Demonstrated knowledge of RDMS such as Oracle and Microsoft Database solutions
    • Demonstrated knowledge of development languages such as JSP, PL/SQL, PHP, HTML JavaScript, and java
    • Demonstrated knowledge in CSS and experience developing for multiple browsers on both Mac and PC 
    • Demonstrated ability to develop application systems

    The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.

    $28.36 – $31.51 ( CUPE Grade 07 (90% – 100%) )
