Description of Work Unit The mission of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) IT Services unit is to facilitate the mission of a world-class college with efficient and effective information technology in pursuit of the college’s goals in teaching, research, outreach, and clinical service of the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences.
Position Summary As an important member of the software development team, this position will work independently and within a small team for the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
Primary duties include:

  • Analyze, design, develop, and maintain software in the environment of higher education for the Students, Faculty, and Staff of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences using object-oriented programming, service-oriented architecture, and cutting-edge technologies, including ASP.Net MVC, ASP.Net Core, RESTful web services, JavaScript libraries, CSS, HTML, Entity Framework, and additional reporting tools.
  • Design and implement database solutions using different database technologies, with SQL Server as the backend database management systems.
  • Provide technical support and training to both internal and external users.
Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • One year or more of professional software development and programming experience that must include the following technologies: .Net Framework, .Net Core, C#, ASP. Net MVC, and JavaScript.
  • One year or more of professional experience with relational databases and SQL programming using database management systems such as SQL Server.
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the start date; The department will not sponsor a visa for this position.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or another closely related field.
  • Extensive experience with web application development using Visual Studio, C#, .Net Framework, ASP .Net Core, ASP .Net MVC and JavaScript.
  • Extensive experience with relational database design and programming.
  • Experience with responsive web design, RESTful APIs, HTML, AJAX, CSS, XML, and related technologies.
  • Experience with data layer programming using technologies such as LINQ and Entity Framework.
  • Experience with mobile app development.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming, design patterns, and n-tiered architecture.
  • Experience with Agile/SCRUM software development processes.
  • Experience with source code version control and release administration such as TFS and GitHub.
  • Experience with integrating separate systems using various technologies such as web services or HL7 messaging.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Virtual Reality development using Unity.
  • Experience with IT in a higher education environment.
  • Experience with various IT processes and procedures in a medical or clinical laboratory environment.
  • Experience working independently and as part of the team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service orientation.

Duty/Responsibility • Design and develop software using: .Net Framework, ASP .Net Core, ASP.Net MVC, C#, n –tier architecture, Entity Framework, Linq, JavaScript libraries such as JQuery and Knockout JS, reporting tools, CSS, and other technologies.
• Design and develop Restful APIs to be used across many environments.
• Create test scenarios and test data. Perform quality checks as required.
• Deploy in-house developed system as needed.

Duty/Responsibility • Design new databases as required primarily using MS SQL server
• Design the Entity-Relationship diagrams and identify the attributes and the relationships between these attributes and the cardinalities.
• Data mining from multiple internal and external data resources.

Duty/Responsibility • Perform data maintenance and data repair activities on an as-needed basis to maintain existing Medical Records, Accounting, Diagnostics Lab, and DVM Student systems that were developed using various programming languages such as ColdFusion, C#, and JavaScript.
• Investigate and report solutions to technical problems. Provide evidence of advantages and disadvantages of competing solutions.
• Assist and train departmental members in the development and implementation of software systems.
• Provide support to internal and external users.
• Support users after work hours during on-call rotations.
