This individual will perform administrative, professional, and supervisor work in the delivery and coordination of a program of natural resource conservation for the County. Work is performed under the administrative direction of the County Manager, with technical assistance from the District Conservationist. Employee manages the work of staff and the work of the County Soil and Water Conservation office, works closely with the District Board, partner agriculture agencies, local educators, landowners and land users to promote programs and services of the department and to provide technical, educational and informational services in order to maintain, protect, preserve and enhance natural resources on private and public lands in the County. The employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and extremely hot and cold temperatures, noise, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, and gases. Work involves extensive public contact, which requires tact and courtesy. The employee supervises staff and develops and administers department, county, state and federal budgets; provides staffing assistance to the District Board; and administers federal contracts.
Requirements:
Graduate from a four-year college with a degree in natural resource management, civil or agricultural engineering or related field, and considerable experience in planning and implementing land use practices which conserve soil, water, forest and wildlife resources; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Valid NC Drivers and NC Pesticide License. Ability to obtain and maintain a variety of program-specific certifications.
Compensation:
The hiring range for this position is $63,148 – $79,958. Halifax County provides a comprehensive employee benefits package, including membership in the N.C. Local Government Employees’ Retirement System.
