SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association which, since more than 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their basic needs for food, water and shelter. Particularly committed to the fight against diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death in the world, SI’s interventions provide expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, but also in the essential area of food security and livelihoods. Present in 26 countries, the SI teams – 3200 people in total, made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at HQ, and a few volunteers – intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultural norms

About the mission

In Sudan, following fighting between SAF (regular army) and RSF (rapid support forces) since April 2023, SI has developed a rapid emergency response, first focusing on WASH while progressively opening to new sectors of intervention (Shelter/NFI, FSL, Nutrition).

In Geneina, West Darfur, SI opened a base in August 2022, providing assistance to IDPs living in the gathering sites inside the city. The response has been scaled up since then and SI is now operating in Geneina as well as in different localities of West Darfur across WASH, Shelter/NFIs, FSL sector and soon Nutrition. Recently, SI is also starting activities in Central Darfur where a sub-office is being opened.

A field office has also been opened early 2024 in El Fasher, North Darfur one of the most conflict affected area. Emergency WASH activities are being implemented.

SI is also present in the East of the Country, with a Field Office in Gedaref. Emergency and early recovery activities are being implemented across WASH, Shelter/NFI and FSL sectors. In Khartoum, SI has recently started WASH activities, including through a local partner.

SI’s Consortium Unit leads 2 main projects:

– BHA Sudan Consortium: 26M USD, comprising 4 International NGOs (Mercy Corps, PUI, TGH and SI) covering WASH, Healh, Nutrition, Food Assistance, Shelter/NFI, Protection, and Economic Recovery Market System sectors. The project covers the 5 Darfurs as well as Gedaref, Khartoum and Al Jerzirah in the eastern part of the country.

– ECHO-funded Emergency Response MEchanism (ERM), comprising 3 International NGOs (SI, Concern Worldwide, TGH) and 1 National NGO. The mechanism is being set up and developed in the 5 Darfurs under SI lead, covering Food Assistance, Health, Nutrition, Shelter/NFI and Protection sectors.

About the job

General objective:

 

Under the Deputy Country Director – Program, the Consortium Coordinator is responsible for providing overall vision, leadership and guidance of two projects (ERM and BHA Consortium) for which s/he will be working closely with the program and support departments.

Serving as the key liaison with 2 consortia, consortium partners, and other stakeholders, the Consortium Coordinator will also establish and maintain an integrated vision among different actors while ensuring adherence to all project objectives, performance requirements, and donor regulations.

S/he facilitates collaborative partnerships between consortium members and other relevant stakeholders.

2 differents projects to lead involving different partners, various sectors and location
Consortium Unit rather new which will require structuring efforts

Priorities for the 2/3 first months:

 

 

Continue the set-up and structuring the Consortium Management Unit
Continue the revision of the BHA Consortium strategy
Structure program activities monitoring (including through tool development/harmonization) across Consortium partners

Your profile

Education / academic background:

Master degree in International Development, Social or Human Sciences, Project Management, or related field.

EXPERIMENT IN THE HUMANITARIAN SECTOR : 3-4 years
EXPERIMENT ON SIMILAR POSITIONS : 0-2 years

Technical skills:

1. High representation skills with demonstrated ability to represent the consortium effectively in high-level forums, including with donors, country directors and senior leadership from partner organizations 2. Strong project and financial management/monitoring skills 3. Prior experience at leadership / coordination roles with the proven ability to communicate a common vision among diverse partners 4. Experience with preparing high-quality reports, presentations, and proposals. 5. Strong written and verbal communication skills to facilitate dialogue between consortium members and other stakeholders. 6. Experience / Knowledge of at least one of the sectors: ERM/RRM, WASH, Protection, Health, Nutrition, FSL

Transversal skills:

Language:

SI will offer you

A salaried position:
According to experience, starting from EUR 3080 gross per month (2800 base salary + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and a monthly Per Diem of USD 750.

SI also covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate’s country of origin and the place of assignment.

Breaks: During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of 7 working days every three months (with a USD 850 break allowance, allocated by Sl). To these breaks periods, SI grants one (1) additional rest day per month worked.

Insurance package: Expatriates benefit from an insurance package which refunds all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.

LIVING CONDITIONS:

The position is part of the Coordination team, located in Ndjamena, Chad. The post-holder will be living in a shared appartment, with electricity and internet 24h/24h.
The living conditions in Ndjamena are good, with limited to no security constraints, access to various restaurants with diverstifed food, opportunities to socialize and to practice sports (badminton, volley ball, running, swimming pool, gym, cross-fit, tennis, yoga, etc.).

During field visit in Sudan, the living conditions may vary but overall are quite good as well.
