About the Climate Change Division
The Climate Change Division (CCD) of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management, and Meteorology (MECDM) is leading the completion of Integrated Vulnerability Assessments (IVA) in all Provinces of Solomon Islands. The objectives of the Solomon Islands Integrated Vulnerability Assessment (SIIVA) are to collect baseline data to inform planning, monitor change and measure impacts of adaptation action areas. The data collected will be used for National and Provincial strategic planning, climate finance access, informing regional and international meetings, informing national climate change policy, Provincial level awareness and village monitoring to compliment additional vulnerability and risk assessment methods in Solomon Islands.
About The Climate Finance Capacity Support Programme
- DT Global delivers the Capacity Support Programme for MFAT. The scope of this programme is quite broad as its aim is to be responsive to the needs of Pacific Island countries. It includes providing personnel or training to assist with:
- delivering and reporting on the flexible finance provided by MFAT;
- developing/updating national climate change plans and reporting frameworks;
- developing an investment-ready pipeline of projects;
- delivering climate change priorities;
- improving climate finance reporting; and
- accessing a broader range of climate finance funding.
About the Role
The selected candidate will be tasked with conducting a comprehensive Vulnerability Assessment across the country. This assessment will evaluate, quantify, and document the vulnerabilities and risks faced by the Solomon Islands as a result of climate change. The findings will guide interventions, inform planning efforts, monitor changes, and assess the impacts of adaptation initiatives at the ward level. The scope of work will encompass all provinces, focusing on the most vulnerable communities located along the coastline, atoll islands, areas near rivers and prone to landslides, as well as mountainous regions.
The successful technical consultant will be integrated into the Climate Change Division and will collaborate closely with the Solomon Islands Government (SIG) and other stakeholders, as directed by the Director of the Climate Change Division.
Selection Criteria:
To be successful for this role, you must possess the following, including, but not limited to:
- Essential Experience and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s Degree in Climate Change, Environmental Science, or related disciplines OR equivalent level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training, or professional accreditation
- A minimum of 3 years of work experience in climate change duties and disasters and risk-resilient situations or related duties
- Demonstrated experience in the assessment and management of risk to Climate Change
- High level written and verbal communication skills and ability to conduct assessments to a high standard
- Experience conducting vulnerability assessments
- Strong experience in case management and/or community service
- Strong capacity building interest and skills
- Excellent written and oral skills in English with good numeracy skills
- Ability to meet stakeholder expectations and provide resolutions
- MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Database literate and other cyber research tools as necessary
Desirable
- At least 2 years’ minimum work in the government sector, private sector, or similar institutions
- Experience in managing and supervising non-established employees and volunteers
- Previous experience working with communities
