THIS IS A HYBRID POSITION WORKING 3 DAYS ONSITE AND 2 DAYS REMOTE.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Sorority & Fraternity Life (SFL), the SFL Advisors and Program Managers to the Multicultural Greek Council, and National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), College Panhellenic Association, and Interfraternity Council provide management, oversight and direction for the SFL community. Advisors provide leadership and advising on issues unique to the community, on-campus programming, and risk and liability management. Advisors oversee long and short range goal and strategy development, program planning, marketing, expansion and assessment for the SFL area and work to collect, track, and analyze data and develop policy recommendations based on this research. As a part of the SFL 5 year strategic plan, this position will provide leadership and support for key SFL initiatives including, educational programs, EDI initiatives, and NPHC expansion. SFL advisors represent the University to alumni organizations, chapter advisor groups, community groups and individual fraternities and sororities. Advise additional categories of registered student organizations as needed through drop-in advising and programs. Advise student leaders on the development and implementation of programs, applicable policies and procedures, risk management, issues management, leadership development and organization management. Advising and programming should use a holistic approach with emphasis on enhancing individual and student organization development.

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of related professional experience in higher education/student affairs, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs Administration, Communication, Counseling, Sociology/Psychology, Education preferred

  • Experience advising National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations, Culturally-based sororities and fraternities, and/or those councils in a higher education setting required. Membership in a National Pan-Hellenic Council or Culturally-based fraternal organization strongly preferred.

  • Experience serving as a liaison to parents, community members, fraternity and sorority regional and international officers, fraternity and sorority headquarters, alumni organizations, chapter advisors, and potential members.

  • Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Demonstrated experience advising and counseling students, ability to provide guidance and advise in all aspects of program creation and planning, budget implementation, leadership development, problem solving, and assessment.

  • Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with diverse student, community populations, and external stakeholders, both orally and in writing.

  • Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization.

  • Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

  • Ability to provide work direction and development for student and graduate student staff.

  • Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.

It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $56,700 – $97,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.16 – $46.70

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
